What do you tell yourself...

#1 Post by musicluver »

...when you're having a really painful day...to help get yourself through the day? I just got adjusted a couple of days ago and am frustrated in pain. I only got new wires, but every single tooth feels pain all over again, can't chew much at all and feeling very discouraged. :-+ OTC pain meds do not help me - I'm immune to them and have nothing stronger. I work full time and this is really making it diffucult!! Just when I thought they were calming down a little bit... Any words of wisdom out there? I'm losin' my mind...

I'm sorry I really wish I had some magical advice... I could use some too. I just got springs put in and they suck. I just try to always think positive. I know that doesn't really help at all because it gets really hard. Just try to picture how great you will look when its over.

Do you have any heating pads? My friend made me some with dried corn (or something like that), they were all different sizes and one is perfect for placing on cheeks when teeth are sore. When I got my first powerchain, I used one and it helped alleviate the pain. You heat them in the microwave and I used it at work and didn't care what people thought. Several co workers had braces at one time, so they understood my pain.

Thanks, everybody. I'm gonna try the heat idea... I just feel obsessive about the pain - ya know, it just takes over!

I try to remember why I got braces, and what I'm going to achieve.

Also, It helps to keep yourself busy or active, at least it works for me, but I don't feel much pain by now.

When I was newly braced last summer, I found that cold drinks helped. Now, after 6 months, hot drinks feel really good. I'm enjoying my morning coffee even more these days!

We are programmed to think pain=something bad. I've tried to reframe the discomfort-thing to view it as a minor inconvenience while moving toward a beautiful smile.

I tell myself that I like the pain because it's pain that I'm paying for. And because I paid for it, I will tolerate it more than any other pain I happen to experience elsewhere.

However, I've also used silicone wax, Canker-X, and GumEase from dentakit to ease mouth pain.
