Braces and sports (skiing, etc)

#1 Post by enconstruccion »

Hello,

I got braces one week ago, and I like to do some sports that now I feel like more dangerous

For example, I like to go skiing, but now I'm a bit scared thinking on a crash or something like this. Any experiences on this?

Go ski and go fast!

Don't worry about it, you might get some extra cuts/rubs from the brackets if you wreck, but you will be fine. I've crashed my dirt bikes more than a few times without any major issues, braces wise anyway. I use a mouth guard for hockey, but I always have in the past so that's nothing new. Are there any other sports you had in mind?

Thank you :D

I do some other sports but I don't think I have any problems with them as there are less 'risky' (trekking, gym activities, dancing, etc...)

I guess it would be a nice thing to put some extra lips protector agains wind, cold and sun.

Braces have not limited my sports at all--I have downhilled skiied many, many times (and I am not a very good skiier!!)...the only time I freaked out a little, was when we went horseback riding with the kids in Yellowstone and my horse went crazy and took off running (I am a city girl, not a cowboy  )....so the horse threw me...I had only had my braces on for 4 or 5 weeks at the time...I was more afraid when I fell off that I did some braces damage--which I didn't--they were just stuck to the inside of my mouth, and I had a pretty bad ankle sprain...so go out go hard and have fun!!
Wore Braces for 2 years, 5 months, 3 days

I think skiing is fine with braces! It's more sports like football or something like that, I think that you need to get a guard.

Re: Braces and sports (skiing, etc), or travel

Just an update, as I went skiing last weekend, and had no problems at all :D

I was worried about travel with braces too... What about going to a safari with them? In such places you can't find easily an ortho if something happens hehehe :?

Ty for your comments!
