Hello,
I'm going to be getting braces soon. I have the choice between metal braces and clear braces, and was wondering which would be better. The cost is not different. The factors that I am considering are: appearance, speed (because I have heard conflicting stories about treatment time), and comfort, I play the trumpet and would still like to maintain the skill level that I am at. The main reason that I am getting braces is for my overbite, which the ortho said could be corrected with rubberbands. I was was wondering what people's experiences are.
Thanks for the input,
Nate.

When you get braces, this is the product you will need when you play trumpet (just FYI):

I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
Re: Metal vs Clear braces
Go with whichever you like the look of better.
Speed, I think it will be pretty much equal either way.
I had full metal damon on bottom, half metal damon on the uppers with full clear brackets on the upper 4, and I never noticed a difference in comfort. Once you go through the adjustment period its all the same.

Re: Metal vs Clear braces
I'm pondering this too. One of my coworkers had clear on top for two years, but had metal brackets put on after the clear braces were removed for her wedding. She told me both types feel the same, but she finds metal easier to keep clean.
Re: Metal vs Clear braces
I was told the metal braces are a little faster. I ended up going with the clear braces top and bottom and I like them better. With clear bands, you can barely tell they are there when I talk.

Thanks for all the replies :) I am thinking of going for the clear/ceramic ones. March 10 is the day I get them on, so I will post an update then. They said I would need rubberbands, is there anything I would need to know about those?
Thank,
Nate
