Any Feedback on Zoom Whitening???

#1 Post by uvraise »

Hey guys,
I'll be getting my braces off two weeks from tomorrow! I was wondering if anyone can give me advice, tips, and so on, on Zoom whitening? I plan on getting it done right after the braces come off. Thanks for any replies!

as i've heard around here that you should wait about 2 weeks between debanding and whitening just to be sure that any residue from bonding is gone...you wouldnt want stains...

but i dont know anyone that did it..

Oh yeah i too would love to hear any feedback about zoom whitening also! wil definately get this when my braces come off!

I know of someone who got Zoom whitening the day after theyre braces got removed and as far i can see without delving into his mouth that his teeth are perfectly white with no stains!

That was real soon after debanding tho :?

Waiting 3-4 weeks after debanding seems to be the very common theme for a few reasons. Firstly to allow time for your gums to settle down (you dont want yellow rings at the top of your teeth once the swelling in your gums goes!), because your teeth can be sensitive after debanding and whitening can make this much worse and also time for the left over bonding materials to come off your teeth. I think I'll book myself in for 4 weeks later :)

If I recall correctly, one of our (2nd :D ) ortho's, who participates on the board, recommended to wait six weeks.

Just bought a Groupon deal for Zoom whitening. I'll ask my Ortho about it at my next appointment. Get my braces off in April, fingers crossed.

I had my teeth whitened with a laser (not zoom) about a month before I had the braces put on (of course, at that time I didn't even know I was going to get braces). The difference is noticeable, I'm pleased with the way my teeth look. Doctors (ortho, surgeon, dentist) say it's a beautiful natural shade but it still seems yellow-ish to me. It did hurt a little (short sharp pains that lasted a few hours) but not that much.
I didn't go for Zoom because I've read too many reviews with bad side effects. Like really bad pain and sensitivity or bad burns from the uv light. When I got my teeth whitened so did my fiance and we were both ok. Except for a few hours of bearable pain, no side effects.

I don't think its the uv that causes burns, but the whitening gel.
Non-custom trays+ high % gel = bad idea.
I burned my gums at home doing this- no uv needed.

I had Zoom whitening done at the dentist with the UV light. Towards the end of the session I experienced some tooth sensitivity, which wasn't pleasant although bearable. However, the following 12 to 15 hours after my session were an absolute freaking nightmare. I remember praying and hoping that I didn't permanently damage my gums as the pain was intolerable.

It wasn't a constant pain but rather appeared as sharp quick painful zingers that would come and go without warning. What is a zinger? A zinger feels like an electrical shock. I laid in bed trying not to move or breathe as I didn't want to aggravate my overly sensitive teeth and gums.

I consider myself to have a pretty high pain tolerance (have multiple body piercings and run barefoot outdoors daily) and nothing comes close to how painful and unpleasant this Zoom whitening was for me to endure. Afterwards I come to find out that a good friend of mine had it done previously and had a similar experience to me.

I switched back to my childhood dentist, who I trust completely and he is going to do the Dash whitening on me once the braces come off. Does anyone have any experience with Dash whitening?
