Braces distort images of the head/neck area. Your braces won't get ripped from your teeth.
It should be fine for knees.

I never even heard of getting approval from your orthodontist before getting an MRI. Sounds silly since it's for your knee. I had an MRI of my right shoulder last month and everything went smoothly. I was instructed to take off my watch which was on my left wrist and my necklace, but I think I had my engagement ring on during the scan.

I needed to have an MRI of my neck and brain while fully braced- and it's was no problem for the patient. The readings were a bit difficult to due to reflections but that was it. No need to worry on this one.

Braces aren't made of magnetic materials, so they won't hurt you or anything in the MRI, even if it was of your head. I also have never heard of having to get authorization from your ortho to have one. Tons of people have braces and I'm sure the MRI people know that people with them can still have MRIs.

Sorry if my reply seemed a bit scary (ripped from teeth). I think that was my first concern when I had a brain MRI. I thought my IUD would be ripped out of me, or heat up and cause damage/pain.
Confirming with the ortho is a good idea. Although I don't think any use magnetic materials it'll give you peace of mind.

Oh my goodness! I can't think of anything worse than the IUD thing. Even if all the doctors in the world assured me it would be ok I still think I'd go into that machine having a panic attack if I had an IUD in!!!
