Does my ortho know what hes doing?

#1 Post by OmgDom. »

So Ive had braces for about 6 months which means I have another year (18months). My Ortho put power chains on my front teeth to close my gap but this month he randomly didnt. My gap was about 70% closed now that it doesnt have a lot pressure, so it has moved back now its about 30%-40% closed. Why did he do that? I feel like Ive gone through months of pain for nothing! Do you think he just doesnt know what hes doing? Also Im wearing elastics which have twisted one of my canines so it is now crooked.

I would ask your ortho what he's doing. There's a good chance that he wanted to work on something else before continuing.. I was in and out of elastics at least 5 different times for example. I think we all go into the process thinking things will be really straightforward, but it's not.

I can't answer you question- only your ortho can but for what it is worth, I had a powertie on my front teeth for about 6 weeks. I haven't had again it since he took it off.

I had powerchains across my top 4 for a while, then they were removed for a month or so and back on again now. the gap that closed did open up a bit during my month off but my ortho was trying to get one of my other teeth to "jiggle" in the extra space created before carrying on and adding powerchain to that one too. I'm sure your ortho isnt making it up as he goes along, there can;t be any exact plan involved, everyone is different.

My new ortho is great and explained everything that he is going to be doing and what I should expect from the treatment. He put a lighter arch wire on my upper teeth and explained the method behind the madness. Ask your ortho what his plans are - i'm sure you will get the answers that you need.

I think it's called "walking" your teeth. When you put on a powerchain, it only pulls on the part of your tooth you see. But the root of the tooth isn't pulled as far. So by taking off the powerchain, your ortho is giving your teeth a chance to "stand back up" before putting the chain back on and pulling them closer together. Trust me, I went through this for a YEAR.
