Hello, I'm 34 I'm going to be in braces about 2 years as well!
I'm sure it's not really that huge a deal, after a few weeks we'll probably forget we've even got them, and I doubt anyone else will care.
Good luck!

No I'm at the same stage as you, just went for a consultation a couple of weeks ago, hoping to have them on within a couple of months (not sure where you are, I'm in UK, everything seems to work quite slowly here). I wish I'd got them 2 years ago!

I think I'm probably going to be metal bottom, ceramic upper, what about you?
I only wanted a brace because my upper teeth are crooked, but apparently the top is easy and my bottom teeth are the ones which will take 2 years to sort out, so he won't start the top until about a year in, to finish it all at the same time.
I think I'm quite a simple case though and hopefully won't need anything other than fixed braces. I did have braces on the bottom before when I was about 12 years old, which is why I thought the bottom was alright, but obviously the things they do must have moved on since then.... Anyway, I don't remember them being too much bother, apart from getting mouth ulcers from the wires, but I'm sure that has also improved in the last 20 years.

I quite like the metal look but I think ceramics on top make you look a bit more adult and less like a teenager! I don't really know about staining, I guess if you don't eat lots of beetroot or drink lots of strong coffee you'll probably be ok. We'll probably end up getting them on around the same time. I'm off to bed now, take care.

Hi

I am in the uk and yes its s...l...o...w, I had my ceramics put on in Nov and honestly, i still know they are there but its fine. A lot of worrying and researching but it really is ok. I was worried about how my ligs would stain as i drink alot of strong tea but they are ok, last time i had my adjustment they were quite yellow looking but this time they arent so bad and im due back next week.

The fitting of one arch took my ortho less than 15mins, it doesnt hurt, the worst bit for me was that when they wash off the cleaner they used cold water which went stright through all my sensitive spots. Other than that its probably what your expecting. At first its uncomfortable and strange but after a while you get used to it and the soreness goes. After adjustments the discomfort is minimal and Im sure pain killers would get rid of it.

Sometimes the amount of pressure thats applied worries me (especially with wire ties) but its all done so quickly and the benefits will be fantastic.

Hope that helps a bit.

It's really not all too bad. I'm in my late 30's and I have ceramic on top and will be getting metal on the bottom. People don't notice the ceramic right away, which is nice. Haven't had any real issues with them so far!

Good luck with your braces journey!
