Just got extractions - blood clot sticking to gauze?

#1 Post by hundreds »

I just got premolar extractions today and the blood clot on one of the extraction sites is sticking to the gauze. I was told to change the gauze every 20-30mins, but every time I change it there's a bloody jelly substance sticking to the gauze. Is this normal? It's only been around 4 hours since my extractions...

It's a blood clot, and yes it's normal.

It's normal however I'd be very careful about the "clots". If you completely remove the clot, then the hole will be exposed and become a "dry socket" and apparently it's very painful if this happens. If it's really clotting that much, that it's sticking all over your gauze, then maybe you don't need anymore gauze?

well it hasn't stopped bleeding yet so I don't think I should remove the gauze...
