Just got home from installation!

#1 Post by LittleTurtle »

Just got my braces on today! Certainly feels strange to have these things on. Not sure how this is going to go as of right now. My mouth certainly feels strange with all this stuff in it! Ortho had to put a temporary build up on two of my back molars so that my two front teeth don't hit my brackets on the bottom teeth. So I am currently unable to completely close my bite. :yuck: There is enough space between the teeth that I can stick my tongue in between my teeth. I certainly hope that this doesn't cause headaches because I am trying to close my bit. :-+ And I don't know how the heck I am supposed to chew food like this. I am currently trying to follow their directions and chew gum, but I find myself just sucking on the gum since I can't really bite it. Not real confident right now about how this is going to play out! Hope that it gets better and that my top teeth move quickly and that they can remove the built up part quickly! :(

Not in too much pain right now, but I have a feeling that later tonight or tomorrow will be a very different story! I am certainly glad that I took tomorrow off from work so that I have a little time to adjust before having to expose myself to my co-workers!

Congratulations! The first days with braces are just so weird - but after a week or two they will feel more normal. And as far as soreness - it helps to take Advil or other anti-inflammatory regularly from now and for the next day or so - as the teeth start to move a little they will definitely get more sore. And I've found it's better to be proactive - once I forgot to take Advil for a few hours after an adjustment (when I got my first powerchain) and I ended up with a searing pain up into my sinuses that evening!

Good luck - it is all worth it in the end!

I have the same build ups on mine... still haha. I don't know how it happens but your mouth just adjusts. You will be able to eat I pinky promise you. Somehow it just all works out. You get use to it and fairly quickly too.

I have those pads too. I just got my braces on yesterday. It's really, really awkward. I guess we have to eat stuff that isn't too hard. Last night I had meatballs for dinner, not bad, though the pads make it hard to close my mouth while chewing. Yuck. :yuck: My ortho said that once those molars reposition a bit (only one of mine was hitting, but they had to pad both sides), they can polish the pads off.

I certainly hope that you are right Jambo! I even had a difficult time yesterday eating Mac & Cheese! All I am basically doing is pushing my food against the inside of my teeth with my tongue and swallowing. Trying to chew is not only painful, but pointless since the teeth don't touch except in the front and I can't use those teeth.

I did however go in yesterday afternoon and have my Ortho shave down one of the build ups a little bit because it was taller than the other side and making a strange bite even stranger!

It is now the beginning of day two and it's not too horribly painful. My lips are protesting a bit to the braces, but so far there are no real soars and I have only used a little wax. Any my teeth aren't really in any pain except when I try to eat. Otherwise it is just a feeling of a pressure of far. So I guess that it is going well and so far so good!
