I had my first check up today, 2 weeks after getting the inman.
The dentist said he definitely saw some movement but he did quite a lot of filing, or maybe it just felt like a lot . It wasn't painful and still isn't so I'm actually looking forward to the next visit.

I asked about wearing 2 aligners at the same time and he said it has been done before but it's not very common. As I'm having very little issues with speech and managing the 20 hours a day I think I'd be happy to go for it. My next appointment is in 10 days so I'll order the upper aligner then. It means I might have an overlap of between about 2 and 5 weeks with both in but I think I can handle that.

Jack Daniels, I hope my teeth look as good as yours when I'm finished!

I cant wait to be done now. I dont find wearing it too bad but its making my tongue a bit sore and I'm just bored of it now! I go back to the dentist on Thursday which be five weeks. A good portion of the way through.

I havent noticed much movement on my tooth that needs to be rotated but hoping the dentist will tell me different. A colleague i work with today commented on how straight they were although said she hadnt even really noticed they were wonky before so thats really made me happy!

Congratulations, JackDaniels, your teeth look amazing! :)

I've had my IA now for almost 2 weeks and I'm a little bit concerned as it feels so loose. When I got it my teeth started to move very fast and I had visible results with my incisors already in 5 days! Now the movement has slowed down, which is completely understandable, but when I'm wearing my Inman aligner it feels so loose - my teeth aren't sore at all, not even when I remove the braces. I have an appointment with my orthodontist next tuesday, I'm sure he will tighten it, but is this normal?

also, what have you guys used to clean your IAs? :) my orthodontist told me to wash them with a toothbrush and mild soap...I have done that, but I've also used cleaning tabs for braces. I know that the official IA-site recommends retainer brite, but unfortunately they don't sell those here in Scandinavia - or not in my country - so I've used some other brand that they sell in pharmacy. I guess it's okay, since those are designed for braces that also have metal parts?

I'm still learning about my IAs and I appreciate all the good tips that I've gotten from this site :D

Thanks guys. I hope to get the other photos (i.e. the ones the dentist took) tomorrow so I'll post them as well.

As for cleaning the IA, if you buy retainer brite on amazon.co.uk they may post out to other countries as well. I'm using retainer brite for my essix retainer now too. It's important to keep it clean because it can really trap bacteria, etc.

I'm glad I went for the bonder retainer as well as the clear essix. Just gives extra security and neither of the retainers bother me really.

Hi!

My Inman has gotten a bit smelly

I clean it with toothpaste and retainer brite, but I can still see there is wee bits of food stuck in it beside the springs. Yuk!! :(

Is this normal? I really hope I finish with it soon

Hi Smiletime, it is probably a build up of tartar. You could try to just scrape it off with your fingernail or something like a pin, but be careful not to damage the IA in the process.

For anyone consider the IA, or anyone who currently has it - now that I'm finished, I have to say that I am very glad I went through the process, and don't regret it at all. There were times I had my doubts it would work properly (a lot of the time in fact) but I really am pleased with the final result.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi Jack Daniels

You said in an earlier post that your dentist shaved/filed some of your teeth when they were done to make them even....I think this might be my issue too as im 'done' but still not completely happy theyre straight... where did he/she file exactly? Thanks!

Hi Sazzler

Here is a photo of when my teeth we pretty much straight but you see one is longer than the other, making them look very uneven - http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj21 ... C02055.jpg

Here is a photo after they were shaved - http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj21 ... eeth/2.jpg

He just shaved the bottom edge with a sort of small sanding wheel attachment for his drill thing. It didn’t hurt at all, smelt a bit of burnt hair though! It really made a big difference to how the teeth look though I think.

Anyone know the average price in the US for an Inman Aligner? I have one tooth, incisor, that is slightly out of place. I don't have any crowding, it's a very simple straightforward case and I'm sure this can fix it. Doesn't have to be perfect I just don't want this tooth looking so obviously out of place.

Hello everyone! I've wanted to do something about my teeth for years and after months of procrastinating about inman v invisalign v fixed v six month smiles have finally taken the plunge and have picked up my inman today. I'm really struggling to get my inman in at the moment, finding it really fiddly. Tell me it gets easier?! Has anyone got an tips on easy ways to get it in? Mine has an expander so not sure if that makes a difference.

Also, speech is awful at the moment, no one can understand me! I appear to have loads of excess saliva, all in all not an attractive look! Thought I was going to drown when I first put it in, much to my boyfriend's hilarity!

Am not going to be able to wear it at work, but planning on wearing it as much as possible at all other times.

Any tips from other inman wearers would be gratefully received. Am feeling pretty scared about the next few months!

Hi Pookie,

I don't have an expander but I found the inman fiddly to get in and out for the first couple of days, I even used a mirror. Now I'm over 3 weeks in and it pops in and out very easily.
I was quite spitty at first but I don't even notice it now but I'm not sure if that's just because I'm used to it.
You'll also get used to the feeling of it in your mouth and it won't feel so bad.

Tonight I'm going back for my second appointment since having it fitted and I'm actually looking forward to the filing because I know it'll give more room for movement. I'm going to order the upper aligner today so I'll have it in 3-4 weeks. I really think I'll be able for upper and lower in at the same time but I'm not looking forward to the couple of days of pain when I first get it.

I have lost all faith in my dentist now.

Am thinking of going back and asking for a refund.

He adjusted it and now my front 2 teeth have moved back to their original position and the other 2 are not budging.

Am sick of it now :x

Hi Smiletime,

Don't lose faith. The dentist may not be the best but the IA will work. Go back to him and show him and make him sort it out. When mine started doing things I wasn't expecting (and turns out they were bad- I had worn it wrong for the first 6 weeks (I'm sure he didn' notice me put it in wrong at the end of the first visit), but now he has put different 'buttons' to keep it in placeand it corrected the problems/continued working.
I realisemy experience is different from yours but insiston going to see him and getting it corrected, the sooner the better so you don't lose too much time. keep positive :)
