24, new to braces and forum :D

#1 Post by mrssailor »

Hi everyone! So glad to have found this forum!

I just got Damon clear on 4/15...I have spacers on the top back molars to make room for a pendulum in the next 2 weeks...I am in some pain and my lips are raw, but I am glad to know this will pass :)

I do have a couple concerns. My four front teeth have extensive bonding on them (after treatment, I will be getting veneers on the chipped teeth). The bonding is quite built up to make my teeth "look" straighter along with covering up the chipped teeth. I am worried that if they go with the shape of my teeth with the bonding, that my ACTUAL teeth won't be aligned correctly. Do any of you have any experience with this? And secondly, I am worried about brackets falling off. If they do, they may need to remove the bonding (only to reveal 2 chipped teeth, along with the crookedness). Have any of you had bonding/veneers and had normal to no brackets falling off?

I am so glad to be here :D. It seems all my freinds had braces so long ago (or not at all), that they really don't remember or are interested in talking about the experience...

Look forward to being apart..

Hiya MrsSailor,

I also had composite veneers/bonding on my front four teeth, but my Ortho removed these prior to my brackets going on..... but I would assume that your Ortho knows they are there? So he/she must have a reason for keeping them on :)

I hope you are not in too much pain, I was braced 6 days ago and have been in a fair amount of pain ever since!!

Why did you have the bonding/veneers in the first place? Mine are because they are severely chipped (fell twice as a youngster) and misaligned. The misalignment I wouldn't be afraid to reveal, because I know they are being straightened, but I can't imagine having chipped teeth along with the braces...He does know, but I don't know if he knows how extensive it is...I will talk to him at my next appt.

I am in a bit of pain...Wow, 6 days and your still hurting! I was hoping by then I would be free from pain...Hope the pain subsides soon for you!

Hi MrsSailor,

I had the veneers to correct some misalignment and also to cover my chalky enamel on my front four teeth, so one tooth in particular was rather fat with composite veneer. I asked my Ortho if it could be removed and he decided to do it before the brackets went on. I have discovered just how discoloured my veneers were as my 'real' teeth look so much whiter than the veneers did!

Talk to your ortho at your next appt.... but I am sure he would be able to see what is veneers as opposed to natural tooth :)

I found out why I had been in so much pain..... at my one week check up yesterday they discovered that the wires at the back had been poking right into my cheeks/jaw and had put huge holes in my flesh which made it impossible to eat, talk, yawn etc without incredible pain!! They filed the wires flush with the back brackets and the relief was instant, I even managed to eat a cheeseburger last night..... although I did have to tear it into tiny bits :)

I hope your pain has subsided!!
