Gum and powerchains

#1 Post by sadpanda »

Just wondering if you can chew gum with powerchains on or if it gets stuck to them?

I think gum is on every ortho's no-no list... As are a ton of other things that I eat, anyway! :D I've had no problems with gum sticking to my power chain or ligs. I had to give it up, though, when I started wearing elastics. Those are DEFINITELY problematic with chewing gum. T be safe, you can try to find the kind that won't stick to most dental work (not sure if I can post the brand here). But I found that chewing helps immensely with tooth soreness.

Ahhhh, I so miss gum! I love all kinds of gum and always had a piece going. My favorite was Bubble Yum Original flavor. I think I miss gum the most! I canNOT imagine chewing gum with braces at all...whether just regulars, ligs or powerchains...I can see how it may help with soreness and all, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't get all stuck everywhere, sticky-free or not. Hell, I have issues picking out my wax and food, I can't imagine gum!

It's on my ortho's "do not" list as well. Oh well, 18-24 months and I can have some more.

My ortho said I could chew gum as long as it was sugar free, so I've had gum with my metal braces on and it didn't stick. But now that I have the power chains, I'm not so sure and forgot to ask at my adjustment.

Freedent gum is a life saver. It was made for people who wear dentures. It was made not to stick!!!!
