when do visits get easier?

#1 Post by wire25 »

So I went back for the first time after a month of having my braces put on this past Tuesday. My top teeth don't really hurt or feel uncomfortable. However on my bottom teeth, neither one of my lateral incisors were attached to the wire due to crowding. Well they engaged the one on the left at this visit and it hurt like..well you know what...With the pushing on the tooth and the wire, I wanted to jump outta the chair. And all of my teeth were pretty sensitive to putting on the new ligs. I know I will have to go through this at least one more time to engage the lateral incisor on the right. But what I'm wondering is does it get less painful after your teeth are relatively straight?

I am fairly new to all of this but so far i would definately say the only real "trouble" ive had is with the twisted teeth that havent been fully attahced to the archwire. Ive had three of them 2 are now attached normally and one still has a wire tie. The worst bit for me is once he has put on the wire tie he has to physically push to tooth to get it nice and tight then tuck in the end of the wire - that brings tears to my eyes but once its all attached its just pressure a bit more than the other teeth but perfectly ok to put up with.

The other teeth are all fine, i can feel pressure but its nothing really. I kind of assume once my teeth are all attached properly then each adjustment will be slightly more general pressure which is fine....................... unitl the elastics!!

Its not pain no, its more that i dont like him pushing that hard on my teeth. It just feels horrid but no doesn't hurt. Slight discomfort - thats all.

I've only had a lig change twice (once for an adjustment and the other after a dental office cleaning).. and the first time bothered me a bit, but the second one didn't.

Maybe just takes a bit of time...

Visits do get tolerable as time goes by.. I've been braced since May 2010 and each visit gets a little easier. My teeth do get sensitive, but it goes away within a couple of days.

Hang in there. It does get easier.

I've only had my ligatures changed 4 times and each time has gotten easier, if anything the teeth are still a little sensitive during the process though.

I have wire ties on about 5 teeth and they are probably the worst and haven't quite gotten 'easier' yet. I had an adjustment yesterday and while he was trying to get the wire in the bracket while putting on a wire tie he was pushing rather hard and it did make my eyes water. It was uncomfortable, but just one tooth so it wasn't too bad. I'll be glad when all teeth have ligatures and no more wire ties .

I'm going to have to be really depressing and say that for me, both times round with braces, the pain has generally got worse as time has progressed due to the wire getting thicker. This is especially true towards the end of the first time round, since I had to have this horrible, thick wire (apparently imported from Australia) which was a very tight fit in the brackets. It always looked, and felt, a bit of a violent procedure having those things changed! Although I had a very bad overjet and gaps between my teeth before orthodontic treatment, my teeth were quite straight in themselves, so that might have been part of it (perhaps I had things pretty easy to start with).

On the up-side, I'd say the pain and discomfort probably bothers me less as time goes by, because I get more used to it (like most medical procedures).

It's the same with impressions; for various reasons I've had to have a ridiculous amount of impressions taken since I first started seeing my orthodontist seven years ago. I've generally never had much problem with dental procedures, but the first time I had an impression taken I completely panicked, started choking, thought I couldn't breathe and nearly threw up . I can vaguely remember my orthodontist promising over and over again that I could breathe whilst the nurse tried to calm me down (in my defence, I was only about 12 or 13 at the time). Now, although I still find impressions unpleasant, I can stay pretty calm and composed. I should be getting my braces off next week and I can't say I'm too worried about having my retainer moulds taken.

Hi hi...I will be a bit off, but I also had an incisor removed and ever since my bottom teeth are really really sensitive. It's been ten months since and I still squirm and sweat like a horse in the chair. Sometimes it's pain, sometimes it's discomfort. All in all, I try to tell myself it will be over in 15 minutes. Not to mention my ortho is handsome..hehehe.....after that, I prepare for the two days of bad bad pain, then peace and quiet for a week, then bliss of minimum pain for the rest of the while till next appointment. It gets better, if not, trust me, you get used to it and it's not that bad anymore. Chin up!
