Do I still need my retainer?

#1 Post by Hayley0104 »

I lost my retainer at the weekend and I was wondering if I still need to get a new one?
I had my braces off 3 years a go and I've been wearing my retainer once or twice a week max at night. When I put my retainer in it feels tight as if my teeth have moved slightly but I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

I know 3 years is a long time after having braces and they should have settled by now so I was wondering if anyone knew whether I really need to get another retainer or should they be ok?

I'm terrified of them moving back!

You should get a new retainer. The reason your teeth feel tight us because they are trying to move back into their original position. When I get my retainer I will wear it for life! :)

I agree with the above, go get yourself another one!

No sense in tempting fate and ruining all that work! Besides, if they do move and get all out of whack, there's not much a retainer can do at that point so get it now while you can!

I agree I definitely would get a new one. There are so many people on here myself included that have had to have braces more than once from movement after the recommended retention period.
