Re: Inman aligners
[quote="kittenheels"]Just had my IA fitted, feeling very dribbly and spitty, my speech is poor and have a composite on two back teeth, one composite in the front tooth which is visable when the IA is out and one composite behind my front tooth to hold it in place. Also had some filing already which I didn't expect!
Still, feeling positive...
Let's see what tomorrow brings

Good luck Kittenheels! Let us know how you get on. I had filing on the first visit as well - a bit of an odd procedure! I have been wearing mine on average 19 hours a day since Monday. I still can't really speak well with it in, so if anyone has any tips on how to improve speech that would be great.
Also, the plastic on the aligner is digging into the roof of my mouth at the back and has cut my mouth - I know people talk about putting wax on the wire, but has anyone had the same problem with the aligner plastic cutting mouth? Any tips on how to stop this?!

Re: Inman aligners
Halfway through week 2. Have seen some movement so far. I've noticed by wearing the bow lower (about 2/3 way up the front teeth), there is more pressure.
Does anyone know where it is recommended to be worn? Wearing the bow higher (on the gumline), the pressure is not as strong.

Quick question
whenever you all went for your first appointment concerning IA
how long did it take from that first time till you actually got them fitted in?

Re: Inman aligners
Style1983-it's best to wear near the edge of the teeth not gumline for the front bar and higer for the back bar. I wear my front with the bottom and the edge of the teeth almost in line.
Seanpaul-It took 2 weeks for me to get the IA after my first appointment.
I will have worn mine 3 weeks tomorrow. There has been movement. Now when I floss between the front two teeth it hangs a bit. Before it didn't touch both teeth at once.

Re: Inman aligners
I am on day 4 now and was pleased to notice some movement between my front two teeth - the gap is getting bigger!
I have been wearing my IA at night, then up to about 3pm - by which time I am tired of talking with it in, it makes me exhausted as it is such an effort to speak. Does anyone else find themselves getting tired with it in?
Also I have realised that the upside is (the upside for my husband is me not talking much) that it takes me ages to eat things when I have removed the IA. Last night I fancied a bag of crisps which took me about 20 mins to suck on, as my teeth feel delicate. So I'll be skinny with straight teeth!

Kittenheels, I have been getting very tired with it in, I don't know why! And also finding the same thing with eating, so am probably eating less than normal :-D
I have seen so much movement though I really can't believe how fast it is working! I have been wearing it for a week now (and speech is still no better :-( ) and very pleased with movement. Never thought I would have straight teeth so I am really excited by the progress!!

Re: Inman aligners
Hi All,
I've had my aligner for 4 days now. I agree with all the above comments. I was shocked at how big the plastic was at the front when I first had it fitted (I too was expecting a flat piece of plastic). It is primarily my canine teeth which stick out so the plastic is resting on these so sticks out further than most I guess. My speech has improved a lot over the last four days but I don't like talking face to face as I am very conscious of the effort to form my words. Thankfully it is a quiet time at work so I can wear it during the 9-5.
My teeth are also aching quite a bit (at least I am off the paracetamol so far today). I too am eating with my back teeth only and can only chew soft food. The cupboards are stocked up with risotto, gnocchi and ravioli which is all I can manage at the moment. I have lost weight already (to be fair, losing 10 pounds is quite welcome) but I'm hungry all the time as I can't taste food properly without chewing it and the effort to eat negates bothering.
Question: I would welcome some consensus on how long I can expect the front teeth to ache and be painful/impossible to chew.
I agree with you Kittenheels about getting "tired" of wearing the aligner and it feels very alien in my mouth at times (like trying to swallow a kids toy).
Question: If I wear the aligner for as many hours as possible i.e. over 22 hours, can I expect to need to wear it for less number of weeks? I am seriously looking forward to not needing it any more.

Re: Inman aligners
Just got back from my first check up (2 weeks). Everything is going well, more filing which means there has been movement. He got my gum this time which was a bit painful and still a little sore but nothing major. Next appointment in 3 weeks. I noticed that one of my bottom teeth was getting sore on and off as I was biting on the bit behind my upper teeth, I was worried I'd end up pushing it forward but he thinks I'm more likely to push it down as it is higher than the rest. And when I joked about the filing making flossing easier and that I could do with it on some of my lower teeth he said he could do it with a finer file at the end if I wanted to. I had one day of ok speech and then it was back to being rubbish, I think it's the wrap around plastic on my molars that's affecting it most. Does everyone's plastic go all the way around the molars covering the biting surface and inside?
Tori- I took one paracetamol and one ibuprofen (just cheap supermarket stuff) about 20mins before I ate for the first few days and was even able to eat an apple gently. Now the only things I really avoid are very crusty bread and things that involve too much tearing. Although now I've noticed the front teeth are getting a bit wobbly I'm cutting up my apples.
The more you wear it the quicker it should be, however my dentist just said that you really should take it out for 3-4 hours total a day. This is because wearing braces restricts the blood flow, and if you have permanent braces your roots become shorter due to lack of nutrients getting to the teeth. When you take the IA out there is a blood rush that delivers the nutrients and prevents you loosing root length.

On my lower one the plastic is only on the inside of the teeth but on the upper one it covers the biting surface and inside. I think that's why the upper feels bulkier.Tigger wrote:. Does everyone's plastic go all the way around the molars covering the biting surface and inside?
.
My upper one is now at the lab being repaired. I'll have it back next week when I should be on week 4 but I'll be starting back from scratch
On the bright side, I should be getting my retainer mould done on the lower teeth next week
Re: Inman aligners
Hi Tigger, my IA is like that. My ortho didn't tell me why, but after doing a bit of research I think it's to treat a crossbite. Also I grind my teeth at night so that might have contributed to my teeth being a bit mis-aligned. At least with the IA I can't grind at night!Tigger wrote:I think it's the wrap around plastic on my molars that's affecting it most. Problem is tho, that I think it's causing my back teeth to hurt more and even after 3.5 weeks my speech is pretty much as bad as on day one.
Re: Inman aligners
got my inman aligner yesterday. got a lisp, it feels big and bulky, teeth are sore, apart from that its not too bad ;)
Ive to wear it for 16 weeks. I thought that sounded easy until i put it in my mouth. I'll post again next week.

Hi Hannahuk,
Don't worry about the filing, it's ok, just feels weird. They use a fine flexible nail file type thing, it only hurts if they catch your gum. I actually want them to do it on other teeth at the end to make flossing easier!
Good luck.
