wire question

#1 Post by balniusc »

Long story short, my ortho decided to place small bends in my wire to remove rotations rather than moving the brackets. Because of this my teeth are no longer level. He says it's due to uneven wear BUT my teeth were nice and level before he started placing the bends. (Side note: he's using SL 3M ceramics on the bottom which are new to him. Because of this he's been doing a lot of tinkering with the wire and has even gotten to the point where he was very unhappy with what he had done, replaced the wire with a new unbended one only to start placing bends in it again! This has been going on for 7+ months and has gotten very frustrating.)

My question is - now that he's happy with the placement of the teeth, can he remove my square wire and replace it with a round finishing type wire to re-level everything? I'm not happy with where the front teeth are at this moment and I don't want him to remove a good amount of tooth (from the 3 front lower teeth) through polishing. I also don't want to extend the treatment time indefinitely while he tinkers with the wire some more. To give you an idea of where I'm at in the process, he said I'd be getting a removal date at the next appointment which is in 2 weeks.

From what I gather from your story once the wire unbends after tooth movement, then the teeth might end up being level. Most orthodontists want is make it even appear level even if the roots are not for asthetic pleasing to the patient.
