Interproximal Brush Poll - Before or After?

#1 Post by NiTirannosaurus »

Ok, well it's not a true phpbb2 poll, because I don't see that as an option. If you use an interproximal brush, do you use it before or after you use a regular toothbrush? I've been using it afterwards, to clean whatever the toothbrush left behind between my teeth and behind the wire on the brackets. But I saw some instructions recently (for an item on Dentakit) indicating that it should be used before brushing? What's your opinion?

I use it before to dislodge anything that might be stuck. I can see the merit of using it after too, though. I say both!! :D

Usually in this order:, waterpik, floss, little brushes, toothbrush.

Put me down for before.

Typically I use it after brushing and flossing to get the little stubborn bits left behind, I also carry one around in my purse in case I get something stuck in my braces while I am out and can't get to a washroom to brush right away. They are very handy. Shocking what your brush and floss still miss!

I use the size 1 Pikster between my teeth at the gum line, and the size6 between the brackets...after I brush, but before swishing. That's not counting all the flossing and water spraying before I brush.
All the work is pay'n off though. It took my hygienist only ten minutes to clean my teeth, that's including time to spray with the baking soda mixture.

Here's my nightly routine:

1. Waterpik
2. Floss
3. Interproximal Brush
4. Brush teeth--(alternate between Oral B, Sonicare, and manual)
5. Mouthwash
6-7: Wax and elastics--order changes depending on where I need the wax.

I have the list taped to my wall next to the sink!

I use it before if I've eaten something that loves to hang around but mainly after to get rid of the toothpaste residue.

1. small interdental brush for flossing
2. brush for 2-3 minutes
3. interdental brush between brackets
4. rinse

Hmm, it seems like most people like to do it before, so I'm in the minority. I don't think I'll change my routine tho, I like it afterwards to really get the brackets clean from what the toothbrush has left behind. Here's my full routine:

Oral Irrigator
Toothbrush
Interproximal Brush
Floss
Mouthwash
Elastics

I just do that twice a day. At work I just go with a toothbrush and interproximal brush after snacks/meals.

I use it AFTER brushing to get anything stuck in the brackets that flossing or brushing has missed.
