Stiil Haven't Gotten My Archwires??

#1 Post by eveiga »

Hey everyone,

So I've had my brackets on for almost 2 months now. I had my bicuspids pulled out last month and then 2 weeks later I had very thin wires attached to help close the gap from my bicuspids. I feel like I should have my archwires on by now. I know, silly me for not knowing when I'm getting them on but does it usually take this long for the archwires to be placed on?

Can not answer your question as to why or what is protocol, but my observation is that most get archwires on at least a majority of their brackets from the get go; I got upper and lower on all 28 within minutes after spitting and washing the glue residual from my mouth. Obviously brackets with no wires are just along for the ride. Be patient you will get there.

Maybe I'm not understanding. You say you have very thin wires on now. Are they only spanning the extraction gaps or do they extend to other teeth?
It's common to start out with a very thin flexible wire on your teeth. You will move to thicker wires later in treatment.

Yeah I don't get it either.

But I don't like the feeling of the brackets without the archwire. Way too pokey. Can't talk!

I agree about brackets without wires...but for the Damon's at least, that means the little doors are open, so the bracket face changes. They become quite uncomfortable then!

The thin wires go from my back molar and across the gap so my front 4 teeth do not have this wire on them

Ah, Ok. I see now. Actually this is how I was braced at first. I also had 4 bicuspids removed. For the first 6 months I only had brackets and wires on my canines back. My ortho did this b/c to put brackets and wires on my front teeth would cause them to, ironically, become much worse given the movements she was trying to accomplish. It's unfortunate that you have brackets on your front teeth that are doing nothing. I got a reprieve from having front brackets on my teeth during this phase and no one even noticed I had braces elsewhere.
