Anybody else have this?

#1 Post by CLB26 »

When my mouth gets a little bit drier, my brackets seem to really cut into the insides of my mouth when I talk and smile. I also find that my lips tend to stick to my brackets. It's a really uncomfortable, almost painful (and sometimes it really is painful) feeling. Does anybody else have this issue? I find that once I have a drink of something it tends to get better, but I was just curious if it's just me!

I have experienced this as well! I got my braces in June in the height of summer so I can't tell you how sharp my braces seemed against the inside of my mouth and just a glass of water helped tremendously!

This is happening to me, too. I just got my braces 4 days ago and my mouth and lips are so dry! I think it's because I have a hard time keeping my mouth closed with all this metal in it. Then my braces stick to my lips and cut up the inside of my mouth. I thought my orthodontist was being excessive when he handed me 6 boxes of wax, but I've already used up a half box in 4 days.

You know when you buy, say, a new stereo and when you open the box you find your stereo tightly packed in the box surrounded by styrofoam which is cut out to perfectly fit the shape of the stereo itself? Every morning the inside of my mouth is the styrofoam and my teeth are the new stereo. I guess that makes my head the box. When I gently peel my mouth away from my teeth I can see an exact impression of my teeth and brackets. So things went from rubbing to just embedding. The dental hygienist even said to me once "Oh, the inside of your mouth is really toughening up!". It's all lumpy and gross in there. Good thing no one can see that.

I just have top braces right now, but am getting bottom ones put on in ... 1 hour and 10 minutes! Eeep ... I've had braces before (and recently), so I know what to expect, but I'm still not looking forward to this at all. I hate how dry my mouth is all the time already and how my brackets dig into me up top, let alone what it's going to be like on top and bottom from here on in. :( I am super anxious about this!
