Nose and 4 bicuspid extraction
Hello all.
I was wondering whether the shape/width/placement og nasal base changes, when you have a four bicuspid extraction, and your lip gets moved along with the teeth inwards?

As far as I understand, it depends on your facial structure and what malocclusion you have. Every case is different.
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

bump
I'd like to know the answer to this question as well, as that is the exact thing i'm getting done for a bimaxilliary protrusion. Gap closure with elastics start Oct 5th and I'd like to know what to expect.

as far as I know, bimaxillary protrusion is one of the "safest" causes, ie one of those when bicuspid removal is likely to have minimal if at all effect on the facial appearance as well as TMJ function. This being said, every case is different...

Re: Nose and 4 bicuspid extraction
but if the base of the nose(the nostrils) are planted upon the upper lip(the area between the upper lip and nose), then one would think that the nostrils would move coherrently with the upper lip, as it moves back along with the teeth.

what malocclusion do you have?
Our soft tissues are very stretchy, they will adapt to changes in the majority of cases. If the changes were so noticeable and/or obvious, don't you think people would have noticed that already, as so many patients are undergoing teeth extractions?

Class II, division 2? Are your front teeth kinda pushed back? In this case, if I were you, I would have thought twice about doing extractions. Since it will just push your jaw even more backwards and it is no good.
If you are division 1, and your front teeth are protruding/pushed forward, this is an easier case, IMAO.
I am not a dentist or an ortho, just sharing my opinion.

Your respons has absolutely no relevance for the topic at hand.
Re: Nose and 4 bicuspid extraction
I don't think the nasal base changes, but I'm not sure. When I had extractions/braces I noticed after treatment how big my nose looked because my upper lip had been slanted inwards. My upper jaw has always been too far back but somehow my upper teeth got the blame because they appeared protruding. After treatment my profile looked like that of a parrot. I now regret all this very much and am looking to have it reversed.
I have also heard that the facial bones change throughout life and that premolar extractions/retraction orthodontics guides the face to get longer and more narrow the older we get.

please don't be rude to people that try to help you. If responces to your question are not relevant, perhaps you did not formulate it clearly enough. Perhaps, this is the case - providing that you have bumped this topic twice and still did not get a lot of attention.
