TADS roof of mouth anyone?

I went to the ortho today to get evaluated. I had braces as a teen but my teeth moved back so quickly that after a day at school my retainer wouldn't fit back in my mouth without major pressure and pain. So now at 45 round two. The first orthodontist I went to said surgery so I went and had the evaluation from the oral surgeon. The insurance company said no way. The new orthodontist said he could do some expansion with a bracket and a TAD screwed into the roof of my mouth. Yikes! I am definitely going to do it, but has anyone else had the TAD placed there?

Hi there,

Are you sure he said a TAD in the roof of your mouth and not an expansion device? I thought TAD's only went into bone...but I could be wrong.

At one point, my ortho discussed TAD's but I didn't need them.

For what it is worth, I had one ortho tell me I needed surgery, my current ortho said I didn't and he could do a great job without it. He was right, the results so far are amazing!

Thanks for the good news about your progress! Yes, they even showed me a picture. There will be an expansion device placed in the roof of my mouth, but instead of the kind that you turn with a key, this one has a single tad placed in the center. I was slightly horrified and when I commented they said, "yes but at least it's only one!". So I am certain. I've just been doing a lot a reading on the internet and can't seem to find anyone who has had this.
I will try to get a picture once it goes in so I can post it.

Ack, this is what my orthodontist said to me today too. After that, I was in so much shock I didn't hear anything else he said.

I'm still deciding what to do, so if you get it done, please post your experience!

I'm going for it... I am not sure if it will happen before the braces go on or at some point after, but I will let you know what it's like.
