Is 24 Months the "Average" Estimated Treatment Time?

#1 Post by Skylines »

I was told that I'd be in braces for around 24 months (for moderate crowding and a slight overbite). According to most people I've spoken with, their orthodontist also estimated treatment time at 24 months.
So, my question is: Is 2 years just the standard estimate for EVERY case?

I know that the actual amount of time varies for everyone, but I'm honestly terrified that my ortho just used 24 months as an easy, common estimate, and that I'll actually be imprisoned for LONGER!

Hi Skylines,

24 month sentences are very common, but not the standard estimate for every case...
Some of my friends also have braces and one got an estimate of 30 months and another 12 months. So it really depends, my estimate was 20-28 months and I think that was reasonable.

Hope that helps,

This was helpful. :) So you've had yours on for 2 years now? How are things looking for you? Do you think your estimate was accurate?
Thanks!

My case isn't actually that difficult, but ya, my estimate was pretty accurate... My teeth were straight by like the 7 or 8 month mark, its my bite that was a bit difficult. I'm not completely sure but I should be getting my braces off soon, next appt. in 9 days! :)

Your welcome,

I would say yes, the average estimated time is about 24 months (From what I've read). I was given an estimated time of 24 months, but I will have my braces off in about 2 months. So it all depends on the person. I had an overbite and mild to moderate crowding as well as a crossbite.

I would also agree that 24 months is common but it really just depends on the case. My estimated treatment time is 30 months. Hoping they'll come off sooner but won't get my hopes up.

I have been given 24 mths too. Hopefully it goes quicker but for all I know it will be longer but I am sure it will all be worth it.
