Is it normal to have the gums sometimes get sensitive?

#1 Post by Nathaniel »

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some re-assurance... is it normal for the gums to sometimes be sensitive? I just used my water pick around some gum where a tooth is somewhat sticking out still and it started to slightly bleed. I'm going to go to the ortho soon because of my OCD but has anyone experienced such sensitivity?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this is normal. In my experience, my gums have been sensitive from time to time. It doesn't usually last more than a day or two but if it continues, I would get it checked out.

As for your waterpik, what speed (or #) do you use?

Completely normal :) My gums can get really angry after an adjustment especially 0,o I asked my hygienist about it (after I had my gum swell down over my tooth) and she said about using an antiseptic mouthwash after each adjustment or visit to her and it really does help to calm it down :)
