Types of brackets

#1 Post by lizard12 »

Hi all, I got my braces yesterday! I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom. I wasn't sure why this is. Has anyone had similar experience?

Idk your age but my ortho does that with adults I guess because it's less noticeable. I have ceramic on top now and get metal on the bottom in January. I started my treatment in November, had 2 premolars extracted also

I also have upper ceramic on the socials and the rest metal. My ortho said his adult patients prefer this combination. Also, the brand of ceramic's my ortho uses, has larger brackets for the lower teeth and in my situation, all ceramic wouldn't work. My teeth are small and the top would hit into the lowers.

Hi Lizard... I just had my braces fitted recently the same as yours ceramic uppers and metal lowers but metal on the top ones at the back that you cant see. Watch those sharp edges on both ceramic and metal , they sneak up and catch your inside gums sometimes .
Hope you have adjusted to the new feel ok .. it has taken all of 4 weeks for me
cheers

From what I understand, the bottom teeth can be harder to move and require a bit more force. The metal brackets are stronger than the ceramic ones, which is why they put them on the bottom. Ceramic on top is just for aesthetics.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

Another adult chiming in! I had ceramic on uppers and still have metal on bottom. Many people were not even aware that I had braces, as they couldn't really see the ceramics.

Top Braces: 12-1-10, enamel
Debrace date:Top 12-12-11
