I'm going to my dentist on tuesday and I've noticed a few people saying about clear aligners to finish off their treatment. Is this like Invisalign? I'm thinking about asking for them as my teeth have just stopped moving now. To anyone who has had them, was it to to move the teeth into their final position? and were you charged extra for them? I don't really want to pay if I get them because I was told I would only need the inman so don't want to pay for the inman and then more for the clear ones after that. Any advice would be appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure it is included in the treatment. I paid 1500 AUD total for my treatment, and that is including the clear aligners and as many visit to the dentist that I would like. The clear aligner looks like Invisalign. Its clear and you cant see them unless you look very closely. But my dentist said I'll have to wear them for another 3 months. Yes 3 months at 16 hours a day! Damn:P! Then after that, I will have to wear it at night for a longer time. Because you dont want to risk that the teeth move back in place. And you might have to get a new aligner after a few years. But I see others just get a fixed retainer, which is maybe a better choice. But I do not mind wearing the retainers at night. Hope this helps!

I'll keep you updated on the clear aligner once I get them in two weeks. But I also did not know the clear aligners where included in my price before my dentist told me on the last check up that he will take imprints for it next time:)
Looking forward to the end result! Keep in the fellow IA's!

Hi, I have just registered in this forum. I have crooked teeth and, after reading the comments, decided to go for the IA. However I would like to receive some personal recommendation of a dentist in London that has worked well for any of you. You can send me a pm or post here, I wasn't able to find much concrete info in the thread.

Thank you!

Hello just a quick update. I will have had my Inman aligned 4 weeks timorrow and can't believe the change in my teeth already. They aren't actually too far off the end position although there is one annoying tooth that needs to be rotated but is also moving very slowly. Very pleased so far!! Hope it's going well for everyone else!

Hi Everyone,

I had my Inman Aligner fitted yesterday. I'm having the top and bottom teeth treated at the same time so as you can imagine talking at the moment is proving quite difficult!

Really hoping it will all be worth it though, reading the stories on here fills be with a lot of confidence and excitment for the end result!

One thing i was a bit shocked about though when i had them fitted was the fact my dentist had to put little lumps on my teeth (not sure what they're actually called!) as she said i needed these to keep the wire in the correct position. I have to admit I'm not loving these very much as for me, one of the things i liked about the idea of the IA was the fact that if i was going out for example, i could take them off and still feel pretty normal, but now I'm really concious of the fact that I've got these random things sticking out of my teeth! Has anyone else had to have these put on??

Hello, I had to have 4 of the little lumps (I think they are called composites) 2 behind my front teeth and 2 in front of the teeth next to my front teeth. I was very paranoid about them too but have been to a few nights out now without my aligner and people don't notice. Even when I point them out people need to really look to see them so don't worry. It will all be worth it in the end!!

Hi claire1987, thanks so much for your response.

It's good to hear that, I'm hoping I'll soon get used to them too! I think it's just because I was expecting them so wasn't prepared for it, so feeling a bit paranoid about them!!

But like you say it'll all be well worth it in the end!

Hi just thought I'd update. I went to the dentist last tuesday and was planning on asking about clear aligners but as soon as I walked in my dentist said he had an idea why my teeth had stopped moving. He trimmed away a small piece of the plastic in the corner (behind my rotated tooth) of the plastic attached to the spring that pushes from behind (if that makes sense) and said that he thought that that bit of plastic was stopping movement and to give it 2 weeks to see if it starts moving again. When I got home my teeth started aching loads so i was really hopeful. My teeth have moved so much since he did this, my rotated tooth only has a tiny bit left to move :) :). And also the gap that he created before has almost completely closed. I'm so happy and really suprised that by him doing that it made such a huge difference but I'm a bit annoyed that he didn't think of it before because I've gone so many weeks with no movement. I think I'm going back in another week to see what he says. :)

Hi Crookedteeth88 thanks for the info. Have you got your clear aligners yet?

Good luck everyone

Hi ladies and gents

Really hope you can give me some advice on my situation. I had an inman aligner for roughly 9 weeks before i had the composites taken off and was told to come back when i was happy with the bite. I went back yesterday at week 12 because i felt i had a high bite as my teeth would not interlock properly like they were doing before i began any treatment with the inman aligner.

When i went to my dentist, she said my teeth were ready to receive the final stage with a clear aligner BUT she wasn't happy to do that until i was able to interlock the teeth again as normal and in order for this to happen, she advised me to not wear my inman aligner at all for to weeks to 'reprogramme' the jaw into that position that it was pre-treatment when my teeth could interlock properly.

She said that during the inman aligner treatment, my jaw had de-programmed from the interlock position to adjust to a new position when i did have to aligner on close to 20+ hours and that it was simply just now a case of seeing if not wearing it for two weeks should reprogramme it to the original otherwise she would have to look at filing the teeth to achieve that.

So my question is simple, Has this happened to anybody else?

I don't want to be freaking out but it is not making me comfortable knowing this has happened, but if others have also experenced this and it has sorted, it would give me confidence that it is something that can occur and also correct as naturally as it occured. I'm due to have my teeth whitened by the end of the month, so i have my fingers crossed it sorts naturally and i don't have to have my teeth filed as that is definitely my least desired option.

Thanks in advance

I saw my Dentist last week. I've ordered my whitening gel which will take 2 weeks. I've to use my current clear aligner as a retainer, night times only :jump:, but no idea how long for. Not sure how long he expects me to use it like this for as I have ruined it. I think I'm trying to eat it in my sleep. lol

The fact that I have managed to destroy every clear aligner I've had up to now tells me that I'll probably be better off with a fixed retainer.

He's taking photos again when I go back on 28th so we can compare whiteness. I don't know when I will get copies of these to post to show how straighter my teeth are now, but I will post them as soon as I get them.

Any photos yet?
Hi

Sorry for late reply. I stopped visiting the board as it felt like I was talking to myself most of the time. :(

I am more-or-less finished. I've opted for one more clear aligner as one tooth is being really stubborn. I've had this in now since Thursday and I am in hell. They've had to make it thicker as I keep destroying them and it has cut my mouth and tongue. I've even got cotton wool wadded in one place to try to keep the edges of it away from the inside of my upper lip.

My dentist wanted an extra £425 to 'fill' my gaps and extend my shorter tooth. Something which I simply cannot afford. I went to my normal dentist to see how much it would cost for her to do the work as I have a dental plan and get 20% off treatment. Between us we realised that I'm not bothered about the gaps and that rather than extend the shorter tooth, we might as well just file down the longer tooth. This she did there and then and only charged me £10 for. The result is amazing.

Once I've finished with this clear aligner I'm opting for a removable retainer and will live with the gaps. They are only small and a novelty for me at the moment. If in the future the novelty wears off then I will get the gaps filled and pay for a permanent retainer.

The whitening is working well, but I've had to suspend treatment until I have finished with this clear aligner.

Here's a link to my Facebook album of work (don't know if it will work or not) http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 99c7278b44

Pics will hopefully appear below:

Hi guys,

Small updated. Yeah the clear aligner was obivously not included in my dental plan. Pissed me off! I have to pay another 300 dollars for it. I literally feel like crying. How come he did not give me a heads up. Thats awful! Did everyone get their retainers included in the price. I suspect he got pissed that I just told him that I was going to get my wisdom teeth removed elsewhere.. hmm:( I shoulda kept my big mouth shut!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who has posted on the inman i read this site thoroughly before getting mine and really appreciated reading the reviews of others. I had my treatment at the Bow Lane Dental group in London and they have been amazing! I would highly recommend them.

I needed my front 2 teeth pushed forward slightly and my second 2 teeth pushed back as they jutted out quite a bit (they overlapped my bottom lip when i smiled). the treatment has been 10 weeks which i was really pleased with and they look great!

the first 3 days were very painful and the inman juts out and does look quite ridiculous and i did consider giving up then and there as i couldn't imagine putting up with this for 12 weeks but i have to say it has been 100% worth it. perserverence is the key, my teeth look great and i only averaged about 16 hours per day as i couldn't really speak with it in!

Hi crooked teeth, im only 7 weeks in but I know if I get the clear aligner at the end I'll need to pay extra too :(

Hi Lisa, that's great. I think my case sounds very similar to yours. I'm 7 weeks in and can see a huge difference, hopefully I'll be done at 10 weeks too but iv got one tooth that needs slightly rotated so might be a bit longer, just need to wait and see.
