Technical help please _ tori
I have been told I have tori ( along the inside lower arch) ... I am hoping for some technical help on whether they are caused by or contribute to malocclusion Class II please ?
Re: Technical help please _ tori
Some quick googling, shows they are probably genetic and completely benign. I didn't see them mentioned in relation to orthodotic issues, just a few mentions of possible problems with speech or denture fitment.
Re: Technical help please _ tori
I've had a couple tori develop over the years. Essentially, it is extra bone that develops. Mine were caused by clenching and grinding (bruxism). I have another one beginning to develop.
They are benign. Bruxism is the most common cause. They can be removed if it becomes necessary, but that if fairly rare. Bruxism is often due to your subconscious trying to find a "good" bite.
I had mine removed about 5 years ago. Mine were on the outside of my jaw and got so large I was catching food between them and my cheek causing sores. They made an incision in my gums, pulled them back, shaved down the bone and contoured it, then stitched the gum back down. It was fairly straight forward. Not something I want to do again unless I really have to though.
Are you clenching or grinding?

Re: Technical help please _ tori
thanks sirwired and tjm for your feedback .
That sounds like a fairly painful process you went through tjm
what are the chances of recurrence ?
I am finding that there is crowding in the floor of my mouth now from the tori and I notice that my tongue is presses against my top teeth when I wake up. I wonder if thats because there isnt as much room on the floor of my mouth anymore. If its true then its putting an opposing force against the braces pressure
( I have an overbite)
