What to stock up on

#1 Post by Ashca »

Hi everyone,

I am having my braces put on tomorrow, and from what I hear it can be painful to eat for a few days/weeks following. I was wondering what you would recommend to stock up on food/drink wise that helped you in those first few weeks? Were you able to eat solids? Soups? What was a mandatory in your pantry?

Thanks!

Time to stock up on ice cream. ;#). Gotta treat yourself. The cold also lessen the pain and inflammation unless you are super sensitive to cold.

Soup is good. Soft meat like deli meat also good. You can still eat sliced bread. Just tear it into smalller pieces. Get some protein shakes.

As for veggie, soft stuffs like salad or peas are good. Might want to stay away from harder stuffs like broccolli initially.

Definitely take regular doses of pain med. I never like taking med but this is one instance where I had to.

Personally i dont think you should really feel stressed out about it. I ate my usual dinner the night I got mine on, which is steak (cut into smaller pieces than usual), rice and lettuce. Hurts a little but I take longer time to chew and did ok.

I think most people here have the urge to get back to normalcy as soon as they can. Of course you won't eat exactly the way you used. But there is not really too much food that you won't be able to eat at all...

Good luck...

Buy a Waterpik. I could elaborate, but instead, let me just say that cleaning food out of your braces will be a constant issue, and a waterpik is the perfect solution. I use mine 3 times a day. I can't imagine having braces and not having a waterpik. I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush, and am still able to blast out food afterwards with the waterpik - Food that would have stayed in there otherwise.

Thanks! We bought a waterpik directly after having the braces put on.

They really mean business regarding cleaning your teeth. I can't believe how much food sticks to my braces!!
