Please Help

#1 Post by jurnee2012 »

Hello everyone I am a 34 year old woman who got braces for the first time on Friday 2/17/2012. Sad to say I am not sure what type of braces I have, but I want some of those colored thingies too. I go for my first adjustment on Wed. 4/4/2012, and since I gotta do two years hard time, then I may as well make it fun. So can someone tell me what to ask for when I go back, so that I can get me some color too?

You'll want to ask for colored ligatures. I'm the same way, I don't want my braces to be plain. I want color! What color(s) do you want?

I want all the colors, I plan to get a new one with each adjustment. You have not gotten your braces yet? Do you know what a power chain is?

Ha! You caught me, no braces for me just yet. Soon though! (I hope.) :D

Here's a link that explains what power chains are much better than I could: Power Chains for Orthodontic Braces

Thanks I am so lost lol, are you excited, I was so excited I cried when I finally realized that I could afford them, my dental ins. doesn't cover orthodontics, they consider it "cosmetic".

Just as a warning; if you have a kind of braces called "self-ligating", you won't be getting donuts of any kind. Your only option for color will be power-chains, if your case calls for them.

Thanks,
Is there a way to tell what type of braces I have?

Did the orthodontist attach little rubber rings to each bracket? If so, you have conventional brackets. If he/she inserted the wire and did some tweaking (no rings) then you have self-ligating brackets.
