Inman aligners

I've had my Inman Aligner in for two weeks - basically its ok but the chaffing of my cheeks is tough (just found out there is some wax I can use) and I think I am positively traumatised by the stripping I had done yesterday! I'm not convinced this is good for the teeth...

I have an expander as well as the aligner and my speech is still dreadful after two weeks - my friend has no expander and her speech is normal, so I think this actually makes the key difference.

Hi Fostino, got mine in Sutton Cross Dental practice.

The speach is a problem but it is improving and definitely find the more I speak the better it gets. Am wearing it to work and intend to wear it for the max time possible.

Just wondering how everyone cleans theirs? Do you just rinse it or use anything specific? I saw in an earlier post someone used a bath but if you are not using one of those what do you do?[/quote]

I clean my Inman aligner in a sonic jewellery cleaning machine - I'm amazed at the 'cloud' of dirt that comes off especially around the wires and the parts where the wire goes into plastic. I highly recommend buying one as you can use it to clean jewellery, glasses, watch straps and the like

Hi all,
Just a quick update, I am now on week 29 (i think) although I'm losing track now. I feel like I've been wearing this thing forever!!! My Inman aligner finally got sent back to the lab 3 weeks ago to be adjusted as it just wasn't doing anything anymore and I got them back 2 weeks ago. There still didn't seem to be any movement when I got them back and then one of the springs broke on the back for the 2nd time! Anyway I went back today and my dentist put some blobs on my inman (as well as fixing the spring) and now they are hurting like crazy. I'm really hoping that this is going to pop them into position because I'm getting really frustrated. I asked my dentist if I could get the clear aligners to try to finish moving the teeth into the final position if this doesn't work sooooo I'm going to give it another 3 weeks and then get the clear aligners so I'm really hoping to be done by the end of May because I'm getting impatient. This was only supposed to take 9 weeks as mine was a 'simple case'.

And just to answer a few questions.
Firstly, I clean my braces by rinsing them regularly during the day, brushing them with a toothbrush and toothpaste twice a day and soaking them in retainer brite once a week. I think you can get retainer brite from amazon or somewhere, its in a purple box anyway.
Secondly, the dentist tells you that your speech will go back to normal after wearing the inman for a while but I have found that it definitely improves greatly but you always sound lispy and your speech isn't the same no matter how long you've been wearing it for.
And finally, I only paid £800 for my braces.

My advice to everyone is to take pictures of your teeth every week so you can check the progress and if nothing is happening, or you dont feel any pressure on your teeth just go back to see your dentist because like mine it might not be working right.

I had my inman fitted on Friday, 30 March. My speech is very bad at the moment and I have noticed the last couple of days that I am salivating a lot more. does the salivating get any better?

I have found that the inman makes my top lip stick out a lot and feel quite conscious as my mouth looks really funny when my lips are closed.

It is rubbing the side of my cheek- only on the one side.

when have people started noticing a change in their teeth? I have been told that it should take about 14 weeks. I have only had it in for 4-5 days so far. 14 weeks seems like such a long way off.

Also I was told by my dentist to only take it out when eating and cleaning my teeth. I therefore have it in for about 23hrs per day. I have read on here that others have been told that they should not wear it for more than 20hrs a day. I'm confused!

lastly, is it ok to soak my braces in denture cleaner?

princesspwdi, I soak mine in denture cleaner once a week – basically the same thing as Retainer Brite, but much cheaper! Read the box though because mine says not to leave it in for more than ten mins as it might affect the metal parts. Otherwise I rinse it regularly, rinse my mouth out after eating before I put it back in, and brush it with a little toothpaste morning and night.

I've been wearing my brace for four weeks now, and I think I first noticed movement had happened about 1–1 1/2 weeks in. My teeth hadn't really been hurting (just aching a little occasionally) so I was getting really annoyed that nothing had happened, but then I compared to photos I took before I got the brace and they'd moved quite a lot! Now I just have one tooth which is still protruding quite a way, but I had some filing done last week and I can see that this has got a lot better already. I go back in 2 weeks, and I think I might need another lot of filing to make enough room for that last tooth to get in line. But they look so much better already!

I was wearing it all the time except for eating, but I've been busy/a bit lazy recently, so I haven't been putting it back in immediately. Should still be at about 19/20 hours even on a bad day though, so hopefully hasn't set me back too much. Must get back to 22/23 hours!

Hi everyone, I go back to the dentist on Wednesday to have my retainer fitted then im done! So excited, it took about 16 weeks in total.

I cleaned mine the same as holub, brushed it with a toothbrush and toothpaste and I bought retainer brite from my dentist, it was £10 for a box which has lasted me the whole time.

My top lip still sticks out, not as badly though as my teeth have moved in so it's not as noticeable and the slandering will stop. Your speech will improve but not 100%. I'm quite happy talking to my friends or family with it in but if I make a phone call or speak to someone I don't know I suddenly become very aware of what I sound like. I'm used to that now though so it doesn't bother me. Its all worth it!

I noticed movement within about a week and a half. Not dramatic movement but my teeth felt different in my mouth. I also took lots of pictures so I could compare.

My dentist did tell me not to stick to wearing my Inman for 20 hours a day and only to go over that if I was making up hours from the day before. (I.e if I only managed 18 hrs on the Friday I could wear it for 22 on the sat). She said its been shown that it can be bad for the roots of the teeth to wear it for longer regularly as the Inman puts so much constant pressure on your teeth and the roots need a break. This could just be her opinion though! I'm just saying what my dentist advised me. Check with your dentist if your worried about it.

Hey everyone, I came across this forum while searching through google for any inman aligner information I could find. I'm 22 and desperate to get my top front teeth straightened, I was happy to hear about the inman aligner because it sounds perfect for me. Problem is, I live in Canada and I'm not sure we even have any clinics that offer them. I was unfortunate enough to get gum disease (periodontal) which is basically a permanent gum disease, at my age that has been pretty tough to accept. I got my teeth checked for braces and they gave me the OK, but I'm not sure I can live with braces, and I'm worried that if I wait too long, my gums will get bad enough that I won't be able to get any straightening for my teeth at all.

Anyway, I was hoping someone could answer a few questions for anyone who has or has had inman aligners..
How often do you need to get a checkup from the dentist? Do they have to adjust the inman aligner for you every few weeks or months?
And does anyone know if you can get this kind of dental work in another country? I don't see why not, I don't have dental insurance anyway.

It might seem a bit drastic but depending on the answers, I might be willing to travel long distances to get these. It will end up costing a lot of money
and be a hassle, but I could live much easier with these than braces, and the only teeth I'm very unhappy with is my front 4 which I believe were mangled by my wisdom teeth that I recently got removed.

Any answers would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

I'm going to have the IA fitted on Tuesday.

I had straight teeth as a kid for many years, but unfortunatley there was an incident in Primary school where a boy pushed me face first (at great force and speed) into the concrete playground floor. My mouth bled considerably and my teeth became bent out of shape, but the school didn't send me home. When I finally got home my parents took me to the Dentist right away who said that had they taken me just after it happened he could have corrected my teeth then and there.

I was adamant that I didn't want braces as a child and my parents were respectful of my wishes, but I began to smile with my mouth closed after that and to cover my mouth whilst laughing. It was more just a pressing issue in the back of my head until recently, when I saw some pictures of myself taken by a friend. The picture was sideways on, they'd caught me right in the middle of a big, open mouthed, uncovered laugh, and my teeth looked *disgusting* to me.

I began to use home whitening kits on them and they're now much brighter and whiter with no more staining without any sensitivity (woohoo!). However I knew I needed them straightening, so I went to see my dentist. He had IA in himself during the consultation. I'd never heard about them until then.

He said I was a great candidate for them - my front two teeth at the bottom are crossed over each other, not a lot but enough for it to be incredibly difficult to clean between them and to be visible. My top two front teeth are sort of indented inwards at the middle and the outer edges stick out forwards. Because it's only my front two teeth that I'm concerned about and because it's classified as 'Cosmetic dentistry' (No NHS for me!) the IA would both target only the areas that need doing and be cheaper for me since I'm on a student budget.

I'm currently 19 years old and hoping to have straight teeth for my 20's. I'm getting both the top and bottom of my teeth done, not sure if this should (or can) be done with both in at once so I'm thinking about getting one at a time. My dentist thinks it won't take very long for me to get good results with them because my teeth aren't too badly distorted. My family and boyfriend think that my teeth are fine as they are and find me a little silly for wanting them done, but they're none the less being supportive about it. I love the idea of the IA being removable! Not quite so keen on the lisp though, since I have a highly irritating voice anyway.

I have had it in for about 18 days now, it will be 3 weeks on Friday and I have to say I can't notice any changes. I keep worrying that it isn't working. For the first weeks it was painful to put the inman aligner in and out but since then I can hardly feel it. I am going back to the dentist in another two weeks (By that time I will have had it for just over 4 weeks) and my dentist has said that I should be able to see a noticable change by then. So far I can see nothing and am worried that it is not tight enought. When did people start noticing a big difference?

Have other people found it relatively pain free?
