Braces to close gap/diastema

#1 Post by BracedBeauty »

Hi Everyone, I've been braced for 1 week and 1 day...(so far so good). According to my orthodontist, I only need them for 10-12 months. I have a 4-5mm diastema that I can't wait to close. After my treatment, I'm going to get a permanent retainer for the top teeth and a regular removable one because the space will want to open again. My next appoitment is 4 weeks away and I'm supposed to get powerchains.

I'm 35 and this is something that I wanted to do for a while so I'm very happy to join this board. Is there any other members with a diastema as big as mine and how long did it take for it to close?

I got two large gaps. One on either side of my mouth between the lower canines and incisors. One is 7mm and the other is 6mm. Only had my braces on for 7 and a bit weeks so not closed yet. The one on the right is about 5mm now, but the 7mm one is exactly the same. So no help for you there I guess. But good luck to you with your braces!

I've got a gap about that size between my upper front teeth. Can't wait to see the back of it, it's been the cause of a lot of childhood bullying and adult self consciousness! No help here either since I don't even have my uppers braced yet, but good luck!

I had a gap that was very large. It took about 7 months to fully close. But it may have closed sooner if I wasn't away at school and my appointments weren't so spaced out. My story is in the brace story section if you are interested :)

I think mine is a bit smaller but I think the two front teeth need some rotation, as they are slightly twisted hence the form an "A" in the gap to a degree. I so far have been told about 9 months or so. I will be going back to have a chat and impressions within the next week or so (I have had Clearstep impressions but am probs gonna go with clear fixed-around 9 months , as opposed to 18 and a more controlled and better result I have been told!)

I too have discussed a permanant retainer, with a removable retainer too :-)
