Have any of you clipped your own wire(s)?

#1 Post by auco99 »

Mine are poking the heck out of me, and I won't be able to get to the orthodontist until May 7th at the earliest. I have read that some people have clipped their wires with nail clippers. Yeah, I know, probably not the ideal way to do it, but I'm desperate here. And yes, I would buy a new, unused set of clippers to perform this procedure, gross.

Anyone done this?

I haven't but depending on what type of wires you have, a nail clipper probably won't work. The thicker wires need a "industrial" clipper...the nail clipper won't make a dent.

as a temporary fix, just roll up a thick ball of wax and cap it on the end. this is what i did. your better not to try and clip your own wires. you might end up with more problems then you started with.

Good luck

I had this problem, and so I bought some tiny wire cutters and did so, on two seperate occasions. It was the right thing to do, because my ortho doesnt repair popped brackets until your next regularly scheduled appointment. So by cutting the wire, I saved myself a trip to the ortho, because all they would have done in the mean time is trim the wire.
