I have only had to use wax a few times so far. Initially I find it does not stick but I just push a bit and then it seems to conform to the bracket and it stays put! I have eaten with it on without any issue. I only use a small amount. And it would not bother me in the least if I ended up eating it. It's tasteless and can't harm you.

And to remove the wax - I use a dental scaler instrument I have that you can purchase at any pharmacy or Rite Aid, CVS, etc. It is a small metal tool, and I just insert it into the wax and the entire chunk comes right off!

Hi, I'm new to the braces blog. So happy to have this forum here online for support with braces over 50 yrs old.

I was "braced" upper and lower on May 9, 2012 after having crowded lower teeth all my life. Parents tried to have me get braces as a teen and I was NOT havin it!

I've had embarassment from my horribly crooked teeth all my life. Now to chime in on the wax issue, I must say these first 2 weeks, wax has been my best friend! I have eaten with the wax in, but only with cold foods, as hot foods have started the wax melting and thats no fun! For the most part, I eat without wax, but have a lot of cutting into my tongue when I'm wax-less.

Thanks!

Dear xanidu 2012,

Thanks so much for welcoming me!! We got our braces within 24 hrs of each other! I am actually over 50, 54 to be exact!

I will be in braces for 20 months as my orthodontist isnt going to try and expand my lower jaw, just trying to create more space for my crowded teeth. I have 4 root canals on the lower so he is worried abou getting those lowers to move at all. Hopefully, I can talk him into extracting 2 on the lower to get that space. Don't think we'll do that until about the one year mark.

Much luck with your progress and hope to be on here daily! See ya.
