Went for my 1st dentist visit yesterday, 2 weeks since having IA. The dentist seemed really happy with my progress. Actually said that two teeth were already lined up (the ones I mentioned where the filing space had completely closed up). She put a bigger piece of composit on back of one tooth which I can't stop touching with my tongue. But hopefully that will help to move my 2 worst teeth into place. I'm actually starting to get used to the brace now. My speech is still quite bad. Something's I can say fine but other words I struggle with. My family say its improved loads since first getting it. Still trying to wear it as much as possible however if I am going somewhere like shopping, I'll wear it till I get there then take it out then put it in as soon as I'm back in car. Just because I'm scared in case I bump into someone and have to speak.

2 weeks down, hopefully only another 10 to go!

Welcome to the newbies :D & glad all is going well for everyone else :D

Everything will get better. The salivating after a few weeks for me. The speech for me has improved a great deal but is still not right though.

I have to say I am a little disappointed today though. We were supposed to do the impression for my crown today but over the last week a gap has appeared next to my front tooth so the dentist has removed the bar at the back of my teeth to assist in closing the gap. He said it should take another week but the next available appointment is not for 3 weeks. They have placed me on the cancellation list though so hopefully I can get in sooner!

Since having the back bar removed my speech has changed all over again & now I really do have a lisp. It feels really weird without it, it feels as though I have no front teeth :GapToothed:

Take care all & I will update again after next visit

Hi, was really glad to come across this discussion board, it helped me make my decision on getting the Inman Aligner! Got my IA on 11/06/2012 so I'm on day 5. My dentist told me to tighten my brace every 4 days & reckons my treatment time will be 8-10wks which is great & to only take the IA out when I'm eating & brushing. I had some filing done & will go to fornightly appointments for check ups & more filing. My speech is the only thing really bothering me as I work in a busy barber shop & am talking to pple all day!! I can't really bite into anything today cos my teeth feel like they mite fall out if I do! Everything is cut up ino bite size pieces......

It's great to read about everyone's progress! :)

Hi all

A quick update on progress, I have had my IA nearly 6 weeks now. At first it felt like there was a lot of movement, now it feels like things are progressing very slowly indeed. I am still only wearing about 16 hours per day during the working week as it would be completely impractical for me to wear at work mainly due to the lisp. Even so it is still definitely working and worth doing it will just take longer. As long as I am finished by the end of September I will be happy and that should be achievable.

I too, am taking photos of my teeth nearly every day!! I wish I had taken some better 'before' photos now! Last week my dentist wanted to put a composite on my front tooth, I have delayed this as I have an important engagement this weekend and didn't want the composite to be visible in photos. Once this is on it will encourage more movement, I just hope it won't be too visible.

The thing to remember, as I have learnt from personal experience, is that no matter what system you use to straighten your teeth, IA or whatever, if you don't retain your teeth afterwards, and for as long as you want them to stay in the same place, it is all a waste of time. My sister just went through years of ortho work, she lost her clear plastic retainer, and in the few days without it her teeth moved, the only solution now is to put up with it or get new ortho work. The problem is that most retention solutions have drawbacks.

I am now on day 11.
Speech has improved. Gotton over some of my embarrasement at work - though if running a meeting, or using phone remove - trying to schedule days to let me do this! Being told speech sounds better, but still to me sounds awful. Feel like I am disabled. Do keep it in and talk to folks know well at work, but find often where would chat or comment I now keep quiet.
No pain, just tender teeth - though got wisdom tooth coming in pain at bottom - aligner on top!
No movement visible yet!
Oh and cant eat anything hard - so no longer apples etc, though can manage a sandwich now take a while! Need to chew at back! Upside good for diet.
Still at stage that if hadnt committed money up front would stop - doesnt seem worth it for 1 straight tooth!
Maybe view will change as I progress

Ifkat1 I've had mine 3 weeks today and none of my teeth feel loose. They feel really numb but that's it. However I'm sure I've read that they can/will wobble so I wouldn't worry too much. But definitely mention it tomorrow, I'm sure your dentist will notice anyway.

It has been 5.5 weeks since I've had the IA fitted, and am a little confused with its progress.
I saw my dentist on Tuesday for a follow up, I explained that since my last visit at 2.5 weeks there had been rapid movement for the following 7days then nothing. We both thought perhaps more filing was needed to free up more space. She proceed with some filing which I was happy with.
My dentist then confessed that the movement is a little slower than she had anticipated (to me I think there has been a huge improvement and lots of movement already- I was merely a little bummed that there hadn't been any apparent movement for a week or do)
She then said that if there was still very little change after this visit, she would have me come in to have new moulds taken so that she can fit me with an alternative appliance that would ensure much faster movement at no extra cost. Does anyone know what this miracle alternative appliance may be??!!
I was instructed to make another appointment as soon as I notice a stop in further movement. Have to say, since I came back from the dentist on Tuesday, there has been no change, even after filing. I am going to go and see her next week. Hopefully the sooner I go and get new moulds taken the sooner I will have a different appliance.
As I said I'm a little confused as to whether i should be happy or not! It is frustrating not seeing any change for the time being, although there has been loads. Yet it is a little discouraging the fact that my dentist thinks the IA isn't doing its job properly!
Anyhow, will update after my next visit- hope all is well!

Badbear, I saw a video on YouTube of someone showing their progress through IA treatment and she wore the IA then had mould taken for the same sort of thing as invisalign. She had 3 different ones made which she wore each one for 2 weeks till her teeth were in the right position. I think they also are used when teeth need to be rotated. Not sure if this is what you are getting but it's the only other thing I've seen used with the IA. Apparently it's unnoticeable, more comfortable and easier to speak with so if that is what your getting, I wouldn't worry. Good luck and let us know xxx

Sassy,
I think I know which girl you are referring to on you tube- if it is the same one- she is very inspiring- I may watch it again now and take a closer look at the stages of her teeth change!
I would be happy if it were the Invisalign type brace but I don't think it is as my dentist and I have discussed that option. Right at the beginning she said that at the end of treatment if there were any small tweaks that were needed I would get the invisalign type one (something which I've already got covered in my package) Also I have no rotations.
From what I've read about the price of the IA, it seems like I'm paying an awful lot more than the average. Maybe higher cost includes eventualities such as this one- I don't know!
I have to say, my dentist has been fantastic, it really feels like we are in it together!
I've made an another appointment for Tuesday coming so one week post my last one.
I know it is soon but there hasn't been any movement whatsoever, which is worrying since filing was done- if I have come to a standstill, the quicker something is done the better!
Hope your journey is going well!

Hi Everyone.

I have had my inman for 12 weeks now. I was told that it should take 14 weeks.

My teeth have moved considerably, however one of my front teeth still needs to be puched back a bit and another side tooth needs to be moved forward.

I am going back to the dentist on Monday to have impressiosn doen for the clear aligner that will finish off the treatment. so hopefully I should only have the inman for another week or so while I wait for the clear aligner to arrive. any ideas as to how long this takes.

My teeth are considerably straighter, however I do not feel that confident about them, as they still do not look like nice teeth. I am hoping that when they are filed and shaped at the end of the treatment they will look much better. I am also hoping to have them whitened, however I have a lot of exposed dentin which I think cant be whitenned.

How long do people usually wear the clear aligners for after the Inman.

Also, any advice on retainers? permanant or removeable?

hi all,
just got back from the dentist, she checked my loose tooth. as this tooth was in the worst position all the pressure was on it and hence
it has moved and is loose. As it straightens it will become more stable.(phew!).
overall she said it was still early days(3 weeks). and the movement on the other teeth will happen soon. next appointment is in 3 weeks time.
also i have a infection on my gums and prescribed antibiotics to treat this.
stay positive, thanks.

lfkat - I'm glad you said the loose tooth is ok, after reading your post I tried wobbling my teeth and discovered one of mine is loose too! It's quite scary!! It makes sense though, as the tooth is pushed the hole it is in must get stretched a bit.
Badbear - could the dentist be referring to another Inman? Maybe if your teeth have moved a little it is not fitting as well as it should and a new one would give quicker results?? Hope it goes well for you.
