Ozzy im really sorry to hear that. It must feel so disappointing and disheartening to of spent all that money and time for something that is not what you wanted.

I really hope that you are more positive when you get the proper crown fitted and that your teeth look how you had wanted/expected.

Good luck, keep us updated!

Im now 4.5 weeks in. Things going well. When I first wake up in morning and take my IA out the gap between my front and side tooth has closed up loads because I can hardly get my tongue in but then by the time ive had the IA out for brushing my teeth then having my breakfast it seems to have gone back. It's definitely looking better, ive compared more photos to the original ones and there's definitely huge improvement already.

Rachsher, the pain shouldnt last long, mine lasted 3-4 days I think. And as for speech, i was so upset when I first got mine thinking I couldnt speak to anyone for 3 month but it has definitely improved now. Sometimes I can talk perfectly but other things is hit and miss, sometimes it comes out good, other times not so good but im not embarrassed or paranoid about talking with it in now and id say that was from about 3 weeks. Good luck!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the encouragement!
Im on week 7.5 and I'm going to the dentist to get my new aligner tomorrow- ironically, I noticed that my teeth had started moving again yesterday! Typical!
Oh well, if anything, I hope the new retainer will speed up the already successful work my IA has done.

Tootz, no, it didn't cost extra for the new aligner, but to be honest, if I had to, I would have paid- anything to get the treatment over with as quickly as possible!

Sarah, sounds like you are doing really well! I'm pleased that it's all going so smoothly! When I initially take out my IA in the morning I experience the same as you- my teeth look fab! But after breakfast etc they seem to shift a little! I now see why the stabilisation phase after treatment is so important.

I have noticed lately that the two teeth that have moved the most are quite wobbly. I know this is normal and to be expected but sometimes it can still be disconcerting!

Tomorrow at the dentist I am going to ask how long it takes for the whitening trays and the end final retainer to arrive after impressions are taken. I've made the decision to finish treatment (if it hasn't already done so) by September regardless of how my teeth are. To be honest, they've come such a long way since the beginning that I know I will be happy with the results way before my dentist will. Also, I cannot even begin to fathom the idea of still wearing my IA on my honeymoon and for autumn! I really have missed a mouth without IA. Is it only me who really misses biting my teeth together and not feeling a plastic barrier!?

Enough ranting! Will update with the new IA
Xxx

Thanks, nearing the end of day 2 now. Have had to take it out for the last couple of hours because it's cutting into my cheek so will get some orthodontic wax to help that tomorrow. It's also causing irritation on part of my tongue, has anyone else experienced this? I think it's where one of the springs that's pushing my tooth forward is rubbing on/pinching my tongue when I use it to stop my spitting everywhere?! Don't really know how to help that but it's really sore :( pressure on my teeth is still painful but just about bearable and I've notices my teeth have started to move already they don't ire together the same as before so I'm quite pleased with that. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks again in advance x

Went to the dentist today to get my new "fan screw" aligner. All I can say is- what a joy this one is to wear compared to the standard IA with built in expander!! I love the new retainer!

It is the the size of a guitar pick (ok, maybe ever so slightly bigger) and it sits behind the first four front teeth in my upper jaw. There is no plastic on the front of my teeth so when I smile, it looks like I have nothing on! All there is really is a bit of plastic that sits on my front teeth- what a change from the original!
The new retainer will focus on pushing my teeth forwards, once the most recessed are where they need to be I will then go back to the original IA to push the front two ever so slightly back to align them all. Then I will be done! Can't wait! Having worn then for most of the day i can already feel pressure on a tooth that hadnt begun to move yet with the previous one.
So chuffed that I can wear lipstick again (without the front bar) and it so happens that I'm going on my hen to Lisbon tomorrow morning so at least the photos will look normal!!

Good luck everyone!

Hi Everyone,

after 14.3 weeks with the Inman, I have said goodbye to it. I received my nimro clear aligner today.

It is a lot more discreet than the inman, however it isn't as invisable as I would like. I have been told though that my teeth will sink in to it after a bit and will be less noticable. The clear aligner aims to make final corrections( To me, my teeth aren't anywhere near as staright as I would want them to be)

I have another appointment booked in two weeks time to have an impression taken for a retainer. I spose I will have to wait another 2 weeks after that you receive it. So that means I have this clear aligner for about 4 weeks until my reatiner is ready.

Another 4 weeks with an aligner!!

I was also told that I would have to wear the retainer for 24/7 for a month and then gradually wear it less and less. That means another 8 week minimum that I will have to wear something on my teeth for 24/7.

How long have other people had to wear the reatainer for? what is the reatiner like? I think my dentist told me that it would be similar to my clear aligner.

I'm now on week 1.1 not far compared to everyone else but it's 1 week down :) had my first lot of stripping yesterday since I've been wearing it and my god did it hurt! So badly wanted to close my mouth and bite his hand! Does this get less painful each time or is it always that bad? My teeth are just so tender and sensitive that he really hurt me and I'm in more pain today than I was at the end of the first week. I have however noticed quite a change in my meeth already, the main one that I want moved used to sit behind my bottom teeth when I bite together now I can't really bite together because they sit on top of eachother so chewing is a bit difficult at the moment but I'm sure that won't last long. Will be doing my diet some good anyway :) thanks for all the reassurance I have received so far, the pain definately died off after the first few days although I get a really bad ache when I first wake up in the morning, anyone else get this?x

Hi All,
just a quick update. Had appt booked for this Thursday to have my permanent crown & retainer fitted but received call from the clinic today, the lab where these things are being made cannot source the wire for my retainer!
It will be 3 weeks on Thursday since the impression for them was taken & they still haven't made them! They have rescheduled for the following Friday in the hope that they will arrive.
I worked out today that I have now been wearing the IA for 15 weeks & by the time I get the retainer (providing it arrives for that date) I would have been wearing it for nearly 17 weeks (far cry from the 9 weeks I was initially told)
An extra 8 weeks may not sound long but I'm sure you would all agree it is not the most comfortable thing to wear so 8 weeks extra is very annoying!
Hopefully my next update will have good news & be positive. I am just so over it at this point.
Ifkat...my back teeth don't sit straight anymore either.
Princess...our stories are so similar at least you are wearing something different to help with the final straightening. I hope it goes well! I will be wearing a bonded permanent wire retainer behind my teeth for life so I have no idea about these other retainers.
Rachsher... personally I didn't think the stripping got any better but did become less frequent which was good :)
All the best everyone :)

hi all,
im at 6.3 weeks. saw my dentist asked about my bite not sitting, she just said it will keep changing and would get better?
there has been no noticeble movement in the last 7-10 days. she did say it may take a couple of extra weeks longer than first thought!
ozzy, sorry to hear about you delay and 8 weeks extra with the IA is a long time. i hope you get some good news soon.

Mater33 im quite new (had mine for 2 weeks yesterday) and can honestly say it gets a lot lot better! Take paracetamol and ibuprofen alternately very 2 hours (obviously don't exceed recommended dose over 24 hours) that really helped my pain and just be persistent. The longer you can keep it in for the sooner your teeth will settle. My pain only lasted 4-5 days, it's still not comfortable but it's not painful either. Hope it gets a bit better for you, I've found this a great forum for advice. Also my teeth haven't felt loose or wobbly yet they feel very tender at times but not loose. Hope this helps :)

Thanks Rachsher.....do you get the awful pain when you remove the appliance? My dentist said for me to gradually increase the time i use it...so half hr one day then an hr etc but im worried that because i am not using it constantly yet that my teeth will not know if they are coming or going? lol.
May i ask how many hours a day you are using it and did you just go straight in and wear it for the whole recommended time from day dot?

Thanks appreciate the advise... feel a nuisance to keep asking my dentist especially as he hasnt ever worn one. ;0)

The pain in taking the device in and out usually subsides after a week or so. It shouldn't be hurting you enough to make you not wear it though. I was wearing it 20 hours a day from the offset.

A lot of other people have said about pain when taking it in and out, can't say I've really experienced that it's more the aching pain of my teeth moving when I have it in. I tried to wear mine for the full 18 hours from the first day which is what my dentist told me to do but probably managed 12 hours for the first 5 days or so because I had to keep taking out because my teeth were aching so much but now I can wear it all day no problem. I think they longer you can keep it in for the better and the sooner the pain will ease off because it's the initial pressure and movement of teeth that really hurt. How long are you managing to keep it in for? How long have you had it?

I think we can get better advice on here than the dentist because it's first hand experience not just recommendations like from the dentist, although one of the dental nurses at my surgery has one so I got to talk to her before I had it and so knew what to expect because she was very honest about it all
