weight loss

#1 Post by xanidu2012 »

Just a general question. I stand 5' 9" tall and before I got braced was weighing 195 pounds. On 5/8/12 I was braced and to date of this post I've lost 30 pounds. I've cut out a lot of snacks and candy and some other "bad" foods. Has anyone else wearing braces experienced this amount of weight loss in this amount of time?

I got mine this past Tuesday and I've lost 5 pounds since then. I have bite turbo bites behind my two front teeth and can't chew so I'm eating soup and soft foods. I also have to take very, very small bites so I'm eating less and I'm drinking more water. I'm not complaining, as you can see by my sig I've been trying to loose weight anyway, but I worked out all summer with a trainer 3 days a week and lost less....haha. I haven't worked out the past two weeks because I've had bronchitis but I'm headed back this week!!!!!

This is my favorite topic- I've been in braces for 6 months & have lost about 20 lbs- from size 6/8 to 2/4.
My cholesterol went down to 181 form 239 so I am going to try to continue these eating habits.....
I do feel better-after the initial shock of loosing so much so quickly.

Eating a lot of hummus, avocado, lentils, black beans, greek yogart smoothies & my traditional breakfast of oatmeal or pancakes with fruit/walnuts.

Only in my dreams....no matter what the ortho sticks in my mouth, I still manage to get the food down :( Maybe the molar build-ups I'm getting on Tuesday will be a deterrent--but I'm not counting on it... :soremouth:

It's only been six days for me, but here's hoping! I feel a bit slimmer already. I think weight loss is bound to happen - just comparing my diet before and my diet now, there's no way I won't lose some pounds. Which is good, because although I'm not overweight, I have got a bit bigger over the last few years than I'd like to be, purely from snacking on junk. My willpower is rubbish, but now the choice to eat crap has been taken out of my hands - yay :)

Thanks so much for your replies. I was going  for a minute; actually longer. Looking at these posts I can now  at myself. I guess with braces, a complete diet change, and a change in daily calorie intake it was bound to happen and are all factors; I guess I wasn't expecting it so fast. At least now I can stop worrying and :-+ against the wall :D . Im not going to lie it scared me but I'm ok now. Once again, thanks for all your posts and support :flowerbloom: . My next adjustment is 7/31/12 so I guess a few more pounds will come off :) . Well guess this is a good enough reason to go shopping :jump: . My husband says he wish he could lose weight like this. I told him to get braces. His reply was "no thanks" .
:flowerbloom: :rose: to everyone.

I found drinking a protein shake daily helped me not to lose weight even though I can't eat as much now. Great if weight loss isn't something you actually want!

You guys are soo lucky! I was hoping i'd be in too much pain to eat all my favourites (candy, chips, chocolate, etc...) and I would be forced to rely on healty protein shakes and soggy veggies but of course the opposite has happened... Not a touch of pain and I may have even put on a couple of pounds LOL! Here's to hoping that getting my bottoms on tomorrow will change the tides

Most people overeat in general. The moment we have to carefully consider everything that passes our lips, we tend to eat considerably less. Losing 30 lbs is a lot, but if you're still at a healthy weight, then it was 30 lbs you didn't need. Because of the speed at which the weight came off, you are likely to gain some amount back once you start eating the required number of calories to maintain your weight (165 lbs, 5'9", that's somewhere between 1800-2800 depending on how physically active you are.) When you're not eating sweets and fried snacks, that is a LOT of food. :)

I wish!

Braces haven't done a THING for me in this respect.

Losing a few pounds wont be bad, but there are plenty of ways to eat healthy and maintain your weight. Blender and my juicer.

Well as far as my weight loss it appears I've stopped at 160 pounds for a loss of 35 pounds. :) . Eating healthier than before and added some protein shakes. Just unbelievable that I don't even want the junk food/candy/potato chips anymore. Braces do have a really good upside :-*

I'm also starting my "for real this time" weight loss journey, mainly through diet and exercise, but this would be a nice bonus for braces, for me. I'm definitely already more conscientious about what I eat, for fear of staining my teeth (plus I already have a temp crown I'm probably overly paranoid about damaging). When I finally get my braces, I already know I'm going to be obsessed with keeping them clean. I can see my nightmares turning into dreams about food being left in between teeth and my teeth rotting away while I sleep.
