New to the boards!

#1 Post by thisgal201 »

Hi everyone!

I just thought I would post and say hello :) I'm 31 yrs old & I just got my ceramic braces on yesterday. Boy, is my mouth hurting today! I've been told I'll be wearing these for 18 months. Also a question, how long was it for you until your mouth wasn't hurting anymore after getting your braces put on? My routine cleaning is coming up next week (in 8 days) and I am hoping my mouth will not be this tender by then. I was going to include a pic, but it wouldn't work.

Welcome to Archwired!!

Most people are pretty ok by day 8. You should be fine...it's just all the newness that is really the "pain" in the beginning. (Ok, so there's a little soreness pain too... :yuck: ) The hardest part is done--the pre-bracing anxiety etc is done.
Be sure to pop some Ibuprofen (or other anti-inflammatory). It does a terrific job of easing the initial sore mouth.

Good luck on your journey!

(You need to have 7 posts before your pics can be put up..)

Hi! :D

Congrats on getting your braces. I just got my braces about 10 days ago (August 6). By day 8, you should be fine. My mouth was sore for the first four to five days. Now on day 10, my mouth has completely adjusted to the braces. Eating is still somewhat of a chore but overall soreness has gone away.

Keep us updated on your progress :)

Thank you for the welcome! I am already noticing the pain decreasing a little each day, so that is encouraging :)

I'd say about a week after brace-day I was back to normal and mostly pain-free, just some tenderness when I had to really bite down on something.

I was lucky and I haven't really had much pain from my braces at all... I've gotten about 4 mouth ulcers since I've had them on, which kinda sucks. For any pain that I do have though, I find that sucking on Difflam lozenges helps (they might be called something else elsewhere, but they're just antibacterial lozenges which help to numb the mouth.)

I've had my ceramics on for a month and they were sore for about a week but ibuprofen helped a lot.

Hang in there. As the others have said, after a week things should start to look up. For me it was a good two weeks before I realised I wasn't really noticing them any more: they weren't dominating every other thought, you know?

I had my first adjustment yesterday though and now I'm back to square one with you  ow.

It has been a week as of Monday, and my mouth is a lot better! My front teeth are still a little sensitive when brushing, but I am able to chew things again. Now my big concern is trying not to stain my clear ligs lol. I know they will stain eventually but I sure don't want to speed up the process! :)

What kind of ceramic braces do you have? I have In-Ovation C and I was initially worried about them staining but I've read that they don't normally stain.
