Scraping off glue under brackets

I had a bracket pop off and then the ortho began using a sander of some sort to get the glue off of my tooth, it hurt like I have never had pain in all my life and I have had three babies sans painkillers!! Is this how it feels on every tooth at the end? Should I begin brushing with Sensodyne now or will that even help? I am so DREADING the end of my treatment time.....I may just wear the braces forever!!

There are several ways to remove resin from the teeth after the bracket has been removed. None of them should cause excruciating pain.

If a hand instrument is used to literally scrape the resin away, there can be some force applied to the teeth. More commonly, resin is removed by using a slow speed or highspeed rotary hand piece. In these caes, sometimes the teeth can be slightly sensitive if there is gingival recession, but this can usually be alleviated by having a cotton roll placed over any exposed area.

Does this harm the teeth in any way? Also, will scraping the resin off have any adverse effects on teeth that are bonded?

Damn i already got my teeth shaved off twice (3 years ago) to line up my teeth and it already HURT LIKE **********. My front teeth were hurting for at least 1 whole month, it was that excruciating painful. Now they are not hurting anymore but i'll try to reduce any damage as much as possible. For example, avoiding sugary food and carbonated drinks.

If my orthodontist has to scrap off glue (file off glue) to get my brackets off.... I don't think I can take that pain anymore.

My friend who also had braces told me she felt unbearable sensitivity during debonding. Even 1 year after braces were taken off she has sensitive teeth. I hope debonding isn't the cause of her permanent sensitivity.

I heard getting resin removed in the middle of treatment (like when a bracket pops off) is worse as your teeth are still sensitive from the movement whereas at the end of treatment they have at least settled a little in the right place. I'm hoping this is true as I'm dreading removal especially as ceramics are meant to hurt more to remove!

this makes sense, the pressure from just putting in a new wire hurts where as the first time putting the wire in didn't hurt at all.

one of my teeth was sensitive after putting the braces on from them scratching the surface for the glue. its gone after like 2 weeks with light brushing, heavy brushing cause the sensitivity to remain a lot longer.

Recently, I had my upper ceramics replaced with metal. This was a long process to remove the ceramic (which often shatter everywhere), and then the scraping and polishing. None was the least bit painful. 'But, my teeth were settled and not tender (as they might be when I first have a new archwire or elastics).

No sensitivity afterwards either. However, my ortho prescriped MI paste which will help to strengthen and rebuild the enamel, which I have been using for the last week. All is good!

I had a bracket pop off during the fitting of my braces and they left it as it was because the ortho decided not to bracket that tooth up on the first fitting, but today on my adjustment he decided to reattach it but had to get the glue off first with that sander attachment on the drill. OH MY! I absolutely hate that sensation at the best of times but with sore teeth it was hideous. I am coming out in goosebumps just thinking about it. Dread to think what it is going to be like when I am debanded

I had some surplus glue removed with the sander thingy as well. It hurt a lot and I hated the sensation. They really do that to all your teeth when the brackets come off?? Holy moly
