Hello all, I know I've posted before about extractions, but I didn't really get answers!
How many weeks before brace fitting should i get my extractions? 1 week? 2 week?
I have a dentist appointment in 2 days time to arrange my teeth extractions ( 2nd pre-molars on the top jaw)
I am actually really worried and scared at the thought of the cracking and pulling sensations
is it really that bad, I remember my mum having 5 teeth out at the same time and she was so swollen and in so much pain, put me off for life!!
It wasn't so bad when I had 2 upper premolars pulled last Wednesday. The sounds were not as loud as I was expecting, and with the novocaine, it didn't hurt. I got a vicodin rx for afterward but never had enough pain to need it, high-dose ibuprofen did the trick.

Well I had my first extraction of an upper molar extracted about a month before I got my braces and then my first bicuspids removed on the bottom with just my brackets on before they inserted the wire and they waited about three weeks before they put the wire on so I could do some healing. The bottom extractions were not bad at all but I was not so lucky with my upper molar. I did everything right and still ended up with dry socket. That is a pain I would not wish on anyone. I hope everything goes well. Please keep us updated.

It's when the blood clot comes loose before the extraction gap has healed sufficiently, and as a result the bone is exposed to the germs, food debris, etc. from the mouth. It's most common in lower arch extractions. Not always preventable, but risk can be minimized by not smoking, no positive/negative airway pressure, don't disturb the site, tell your dentist about any meds, etc. Then again, some people get them anyway.
sweetcynic, not long now, are you getting both your uppers and lowers at the same time?
Oh and its good to know dry sockets are more common in the lower arch, got away without any extractions in my bottom.
I don't smoke so hopefully I don't get a dry socket, I'm dreading it more than surgery, least I'll be asleep then haha.

I had one lower incisor extracted and then was braced top and bottom at the same appointment! Originally my ortho was only going to do the upper but decided (as he had time) to go ahead and brace the lowers too. Too be honest I wish I'd had a bit of time between extraction and bracing as it took more time to get used to both a Bruce and a healing extraction site.
I had a wisdom tooth pulled a few years ago. It was way faster than I expected, and not too scary. I was able to eat at a restaurant the next day! The strangest part was the dentist tugging on my face... Don't worry, it will be okay!

Ouch! I didn't think ortho's did extractions, well at least my doesn't!
Must have been painful to say the least! Did you have a power chain at all? to close the gap, I'm just wondering if my ortho would probably do the same!

Was it your upper jaw or lower jaw? I'm worried I will be able to feel the tugging in my cheeks, lol, I don't know why but the pulling sensation would be worst for me haha
