Hi there,
I have had incognito lingual braces for 3 years on both arches. Lower arch great, upper not so much. There has been no movement in over 16 months, and my ortho now agrees that swapping to upper ceramic will get my case finished ( i had to push for this but never mind).
I had molds, x rays etc taken 3 years ago, and my ortho has said that he doesnt need to take new records to swap. Is this normal? As i dont understand how he can plan my treatment etc going forward. He has said that I can have the upper braces removed and ceramic placed in one long appointment.
Thank you,
Jesscat

Re: Process of swapping Braces
Hey Jesscat, have replied to you on my other post but just thought I'd reply to you here too in case you don't see it!
Yep, I had this done today on my lowers, the linguals were taken off, all the glue was removed and the ceramics put on. The ceramics took nowhere near as long as the linguals did to put on, only about 20mins compared to 2 hours! The ortho does it freehand using standard brackets and wire, they aren't made specially for you like the linguals ones are. The wire looks really crooked and then it'll straighten out as your teeth straighten up - hope that makes sense.
I might be following you donwn the route of ceramics on the uppers too eventually... sigh, really makes you wish you had a crystal ball at the beginning, eh?!

Re: Process of swapping Braces
thanks for reply!
what type of ceramics have you got on? i think i am getting clarity advanced - but im really worried they will look bulky. this is all such a pain!
im not looking forward to the lingual removal but they have to come off sometime. Have you been using a water irrigator through treatment? my gums look ok but we will see.

Re: Process of swapping Braces
Hmm, I'm not sure what type of ceramics they are, sorry. They don't look bulky though and I'm quite happy with them, would possibly maybe consider them for my uppers too if my new wire doesn't work.
The removal of the linguals was fine, just took a bit of grinding to get rid of the adhesive. I hadn't been using a water pik or anything so that might have helped my gums. They were tons better yesterday and today seem almost back to normal.
Am now just paranoid about having food stuck where people can see it!!
