Yeah, I still have them. Don't know how much longer I'm going to need them. I don't really mind them that much, because they're so ground down.
Congrats on getting yours removed!! That's awesome!
Oh! I see you're going to be debanded soon!!! Congrats!! That's so exciting!!
Thanks, and you're right.. they're so ground down, in the end.. there's not a lot of difference Just curious, did you bug your ortho about it? I was annoying and towards the end .. I kept asking when I could get them removed.
Thanks and I'm so excited!!! I'm hoping to enjoy eating bread again

No, haven't really bugged him. I have asked my ortho a couple times and his response was.. until your deep bite is gone. Which still doesn't tell me much! lol I'll probably ask him a few more times, to see if I get a different answer.
Yeah, eating bread and not having to worry about it getting stuck around brackets and under wires, will be awesome! I hate eating crackers and it turns into cement around your brackets... Just a total mess to clean up.

I "believed" we only had the molar buildups so we didn't bite brackets off (I have or had a deep bite as well).. that once the teeth are moved enough, they aren't really needed anymore.
Yeah, I just ate a sandwich .. I hate the amount of time it takes to get all the bits outta the brackets. Eating is a real pain in the butt!! But, I still eat bread, crackers, chips.. I can't help myself..
My teeth feel very tender because I just had top & bottom braces + wire put in, but the worst part is probably the molar buildups (blue things that go under my upper 2 back molars).
They are preventing me from chewing ANYTHING, and it hurts when my lower molars touch the upper molars. :'( WHEN WILL THIS ENDDDD
Hi JuicyJuicy,
I am going to be in the same boat as you tomorrow. I get my braces put on then and my orthodontist said he would be adding molar buildups for me, too. Hearing this news on October 12th has caused me a tremendous amount of anxiety because I was so shocked that I forgot to ask him how long I would have to have those things in my mouth. Having been on this forum for a while already, I knew all about how EVIL they are supposed to be. So hang in there and keep us posted on how you're doing. I hear that eventually the evil things wear down a little bit and you are able to chew food again for awhile. That is, until your orthodontist decides to build them up again!
Juicyjuicy and Dee, I'm in the same boat as you guys TODAY! I just came back from getting my braces put on, and along with them, I have those dreaded blue molar build-ups on my upper arch. The orthodontic assistant said that they were only mild build-ups, but they feel very odd to me. Besides not being able to chew things, I feel like I'm constantly walking around with my mouth slightly open, and it's making my jaw tired.
I don't have a deep bite so they weren't planning to give me build-ups in the first place, but unfortunately the brackets on my back molars interfered with my bite, so I guess they were afraid that I'd knock them off at some point. Oh well. Hopefully in a couple days I'll be used to them or at least have ground them down somewhat.
Good luck to us all!

Hi artichokeenthusiast,
Oh my, I must admit that I would have been VERY upset if I went to just get my brackets put on and discovered when they were finished that I had also been given molar buildups without any advance notice or warning. I have about two weeks to get used to the idea that these horrid things are in my future. While it's been pretty dreadful because of all the anxiety it has caused me, I think I'd have been plenty ticked off about if were I in your situation.
So, you're walking around with your mouth slightly open, huh? Ooooh, that sounds like it won't be a very nice side effect. Well, hang in there. Good luck and keep us posted on how you're making out with them. Did they tell you how long you would have to have them? I got an email from my orthodontist today and it said I would have mine for the duration of my treatment -- two years! I almost fell off my chair when I read that. But I went to the grocery store and stocked up on some "soft food" so, all in all, I feel like I'm pretty well prepared for the big day tomorrow. Wish me luck and best of luckto you, too!
Oof, the whole 2 years? Quite a shocker! I kind of tentatively asked the orthodontic assistant if I'd need the molar buildups for the entire term of my treatment (I'm also 2 years) and she said probably not, but without any real certainty. Ah well.
I was kind of expecting the possibility of molar buildups (being a paranoid worry wart) and molar bands (because I have a crown) but no molar bands yet. I hope the bracket on my crown stays put!!
Good luck on your big day tomorrow, Dee! All my complaining aside, I'm quite happy that I can finally begin my treatment, and I hope you will be too!

Hi artichokeenthusiast,
I'm hoping that I won't have to have them for two years. I am really dreading having to have them at all. I've been in pretty much a constant state of anxiety since he told me. That was mostly because I forgot to ask him how long I would need them because I was just so shocked. I've read quite a bit about them on this forum and was really hoping I would not need them. So, when my worst fear was realized, I just didn't even think to ask him how long. Now, I know and so even though I'm unhappy about that, at least that's one less thing to worry about.
So, I hope you won't have to have yours for two long. Maybe we can commiserate about it together.
Despite all my whining and moaning I'm actually glad that my bracketing day is finally here tomorrow. I have a very large space between my two teeth (which is why I'm getting braces to begin with) and I will be happy to see it go away. Even though I know I feel embarrassed by and self-conscious of my braces, I am even more so because of the space between my teeth. I have stopped smiling with my mouth open. So, once my teeth have been restored to their original condition, I will be able to smile freely again.
Take care,
Dee
Hi you guys,
Well, I had my braces put on today. Went pretty well. The only negative thing was that awful thing they put in your mouth to hold your lips open and having to have my mouth open for such a long time. My jaw was really aching by the time it was all finished.
She put the molar buildups in but assured me that I would still be able to chew. When I finally got around to eating supper tonight I found that she was right. It was a little bit of a challenge but overall, not too bad. Aside from some mild pain on my left side, I am feeling pretty comfortable and it's now been about 7 hours since I got home. Soooooo, I am hoping that all will be well in the land of my teeth tonight.
I posted some photos on my other thread: getting braces at age 54 if you're interested.
Hope all is well with you.
Dee
