Hello
Hi guys and gals :)
I wasn't sure where to put my introduction so please move or guide me to the right direction if this is wrong :)
I'm Heather, i'm 30 and I got braces on Monday. So far it's only trouble but I know it'll get better.
I look forward to getting to know people and talking braces talk :)
Cheers.

Re: Hello
Hi, I'm 27 and have had my braces a week today. Hopefully we start to see the changes we want soon.
Re: Hello
Hey and welcome. I am 34 and it's been 6 months... 14 more to go... yay. It was awful for me as well at first but most just confidence thing rather than pain or medical issues. Good luck

Re: Hello
Hi,
I've had my braces for a month. I'm 54 years old. For me, it's also been a confidence issue. I definitely did NOT want to get braces but felt I had little to no choice because of the huge diastema I developed over summer. I've had very little pain with them, though. Just a bit during the first 5 days and since then only what I would call generalized discomfort.
I have Damon Q self-ligating brackets.
Good luck with your treatment and stay in touch with us. Lots of very supportive and encouraging people on this forum.

Thought I would return the hello I hear you on the so far it's only trouble! Looking forward to the getting better!
Re: Hello
It probably wont' take too much longer before you are feeling better and seeing some changes in your teeth. Once you begin to see some changes, I'm sure it will make all the trouble seem much more worthwhile.

Re: Hello
Thanks for the welcomes everyone
I'm now on day 5 and aside from the ulcers bothering me at the end of the day and my speech getting funny when I talk too much, I'm doing quite well.
I'm in no pain at all and only have minor discomfort from my central incisors, especially when I chew. I'm actually a little disappointed because I was led to believe that pain meant results. It would be lovely to have a pain free experience.
Dee - Mine is a confidence issue too. I hate photo's, I won't smile at people, I'm always hiding my mouth and I do my best to avoid showing my teeth altogether if I can get away with it. People always comment saying I'm 'not really smiling' in photo's because I don't want to show my teeth and I'm sick of it. My children (DD 10 and DD 5) often comment saying (innocently) that my teeth look funny and I should get them fixed.
I can't wait to see changes. Obviously 5 days is too early but I do have power chains on my canines which don't seem to have made any difference, yet. Fingers crossed it's the calm before the storm.
I'm happy to have found this forum and look forward to sharing my journey as well as following others throughout the next two years

Re: Hello
My speach is okay except for those B's and F's! No one else seems to have noticed how terribly I'm suddenly pronouncing them but I feel like my face isn't working properly when I say words starting with them now
Re: Hello
I think that as time passes, the self-confidence issues will fix themselves. As our smiles begin to improve, we'll be able to smile in photos again and, perish the thought, even laugh out loud!
I'm glad to know that you're not having any pain. I know what you mean, I have also not experienced much pain at all and I've only noticed minimal results. I'm not scheduled to go back for my first adjustment until December 17th and I am hoping he will say that I've made good progress but I'm not expecting to hear that.
I'm also having speech issues and it's driving me crazy mostly because I always had impeccable enunciation before all of this trouble started.
