Re: Nerves
I can't say I was nervous, because consults are basically just sitting in a comfortable environment talking about your teeth, but I was curious to hear what I specialist had to say about my teeth. I went on three consults before I settle with orthodontist I felt I could trust the most with my teeth. Now they day I got my braces on, that's a different story, lol.
Re: Nerves
I was a bit concerned about how much work I might need to have done before I went so I was a little nervous. In the end things weren't as bad as I was expecting them to be so there was relief too. I didn't honestly think I'd end up with braces but I have (at least I get a wonderful smile out of it at the end!).
Re: Nerves
If you read my blog on this forum (tittle: Can I do this?) you will quickly see that I was terrified.
I had to wait five weeks before my first appointment and in those five weeks I hardly slept, lost 8-10 kg, I could not think of anything else other than this appointment and counted down minutes, hours and days.
A friend ( who works at a dental fear center) had to call my ortho to warn him about my dental fear (it was that bad). For me it was scary because of my dental fear and because I thought my mouth was such a mess that I would need a lot of work done (surgery etc).
When I arrived my ortho found a regular chair for me to sit and we talked about my dental fear. The visit was not as scary as I thought and I did not have many serious problems (just a lot of crowing). We often think it's much worse than it really is
When do you have your appointment?

Re: Nerves
As a teen I refused to go to see an ortho-the thought of all that metal and pain made me refuse.
Fast forward about 12 years I figured I couldn't take how much it was affecting my self esteem when I was out even just talking to people, let alone smiling.
Even though I have has to pay (as a child would have been NHS) I'm glad I've done this and have chosen ceramics with coated archwire and never had a comment about them
On the home stretch now- just waiting for one more tooth to move and in 1-2 months should be there
No regrets- just can't wait to see the final result!

Re: Nerves
I wasn't nervous during my first consultation okay maybe I was, I was estatic to finally get the ball rolling. The morning of getting my braces installed was when I was the most nervous because I didn't know what to expect. In the end everything was fine
My first consultation let me know that I chose the right Ortho team because they are so nice and friendly. I was expecting the worse: three years of treatment & head gear due to my overbite but instead it was opposite. I just knew tha the Ortho was going to gag & scream at my teeth but she didn't. I opened my mouth and she immediately told me how long my treatment would be. My treatment will only be 18 months and as I type this, I only have 16 more months to go. I didn't get the best dental treatment or braces while growing up because money was also tight in my family. But getting braces is what is helping me move forward with what I want to do in my life. Sometimes I kick myself for not doing this sooner but better now than never.

Re: Nerves
I was very nervous! One, I already knew I needed braces but for how long!!? The whole process made me nervous and excited at the sane time. I'm 7 weeks in and so happy I did it!! I can already see movement!!
Ceramic braces on top and metal on the bottom to correct crowding and crossbite.

Re: Nerves
I was very excited.
I don't usually get nervous about anything tho.

Re: Nerves
I already knew what my problems were so not really. It was just a matter of finding an ortho that would treat my teeth the best.

Re: Nerves
I was excited to go to the first consult, and then nervous for the other two. I went to three different ortho's and all 3 had similar treatment plans, but the costs were all over the board. They ranged from $7000 to $4000 and after hearing the $7000 I was very discouraged because there was no way that I would be able to afford it. I have set my brace date for February 7th and went with the cheaper of the 3 consults, not because he was cheaper, but because we made the best connection. As the days tick down to D-Day I get more and more nervous, but yet excited to get started on my journey. Wish you the best of luck!!

Re: Nerves
I wouldn't say I was nervous going into the consultation because I knew he was going to tell me I'd need jaw surgery. I am nervous about the surgery itself, though.
Re: Nerves
I wasn't nervous about anything ortho related. Just telling my wife it was the best option for me.

Re: Nerves
YES! I initially went in for an emergency root canal (my dentist does mine, not an orthodontist) and id only been to a dentist one other time in my life! I had a fear of needles as a child, which turned into a fear of judgement and lectures about my teeth as an adult. I knew I needed a lot of work, so I was so relieved when he was happy to discuss braces too, get them on next week!
Re: Nerves
Wasn't exactly nervous either since I knew I definitely needed braces. My ortho was really nice and explained everything in a manner that made everything seem simple. I was more anxious to get started and the money part made me a bit anxious as well!
