Help!! Newbie braces fitted yesterday and broken bracket!!

#1 Post by HB1 »

I had 6 month smile fitted yesterday, was brushing after a meal today and my top left metal bracket has come off?! I have rang dentist, but receptionist said surgery was closed until Mon (is Sat eve!). She advised me to seek an emergency dentist if its emergency..... is it? Or do I just wait to see my ortho when possible?

Should brackets be coming off so early.... have barely eaten with pain anyway?!!

Help! Feeling rubbish anyway, then this happens! :(

No its not an emergency just ring back on Monday. It's quite common for brackets to pop off early on especially if that particular tooth is very out of line or rotated, or if it has a crown on it.

I have to say I had good intentions when I started my blog but obviously forgot about it when I got busy! My braces are off now and its been 100% worth it. The kids will be curious and ask questions but I never had a bad comment. You will get used to them very quickly, but make sure you take wax and plenty of water with you monday. You will find talking all day gives you sore patches at first, and your mouth seems to dry out much more quickly.

Don't worry about brackets coming off occasionally, it happens. Just get the ortho to put it back on as soon as you can.

Same happened to me on day two, he reckoned it just didn't bond as well as it should have done.

I had one pop off right away after I got it as well. Unfortunately it wasn't connected to a wire yet. I figure that was one expensive swallow. :)

The staff at the orthodontic office just said it happens and took good care of me.

Congrats on the braces.

I had one pop off Thursday, a couple hours after it had been placed. I went back that afternoon and it's been fine ever since. It happens.
