Number of adjustments in total?

#1 Post by vincent168 »

Does anyone know the average or range of adjustments one should have for a full treatment plan?
I am asking because due to my circumstances, I only go for adjustments every 8-12 weeks I think most people go monthly.
My ortho still thinks that 2 years would suffice. Does this sound right or the ortho wants to get rid of me quickly?

Many factors in determining adjustment periods on a case-by-case basis: severity of case, pace of teeth movement, age, etc. I started treatment with 6 week visits but then I got extractions which helped my teeth to move faster, and now I see my orthodontist every 4 weeks. This month, I am have adjustment 21 of 32 :P

Would you know if the orthodontist changes anything during each visit in the 4 weeks?
I'm like half way and my ortho seems to be only changing the wire to the same type each time.
I assume they just want to continue to use the thick wire and changing it because they lose their shape after some time.

Been at least 6 months since I last got my wire changed because my ortho has been focused on fixing my crossbite and closing the extraction gaps since my arches are looking good. He always changes the powerchains and checks my bite. Then he sends me off with elastics and their instructions. He also tells me what type of movement I should be seeing until the next adjustment. Usually no more than a 20 minute adjustment, 30 if I have a lot of questions or comments :P I'm more than 1/2 way done with treatment but I still have to do a lot of work on bite, midlines, and "details" according to my ortho. I'm just hoping I get them off before I'm 30 -_-;; Most important to foster good communication with your ortho. I've got mines on Facebook :P

My first adjustment was 8 weeks after I got braces because I have Damons. Then they changed them to 6 weeks for about a month or two and now I am on 4 week appointments because of how fast my teeth move. I've had the same wire with the same bends on the top teeth for about a year now while they've been working on the bottom.
