Anyone else have bite bockers?

#1 Post by BracesChick »

When I got my braces yesterday, the built up two of my molars with blue stuff called bite blockers. They said I have to have those in for 6 months or so. I cant bite down at all, so chewing is not an option, not to mention they hurt too! Anyone else have these? Were you able to eat with them in? Or am I going to need a liquid soft diet for the next 6 months? :-+

I had these for a short while during my treatment. They can be a pain in the butt but like JillD said you will get used to them in time and be able to eat normal food again.

I remember when I got my quad helix and elastics, woah my mouth was full of stuff and it was a nightmare to speak without a a lisp, eat properly and floss I was so frustrated it brought me to tears sometimes but in the end I somehow got used to it all :D

I've been taking painkillers like 4 times a day, and it's not over the counter. This hurts! Everything I eat I put in the blender. Last night took me 30 minutes to floss and brush. Another thing that I was shocked about was that some of the teeth are now pushed so close together that I cant floss in between at all.

My 10 year old has them (she doesn't have braces yet though). Hers were quite large when they were put in about 9 months ago. They don't seem to hurt her anymore and she can chew. She does complain occasionally that it's difficult to do so but mostly she's fine.

Is it the braces causing you the pain? It's awful initially. I was pumped up on painkillers too. I couldn't stand it if my teeth touched each other, all I could think was "what the heck was I thinking". I promise though that that passes too and you can chew again!

Oh it's everything. But the bite blockers are really bothering me. It just adds to the spring and chains.

Yes, and I hate them.

I've got them on to allow one of my teeth to move out of a cross bite. Hopefully for no longer than two months. I really miss being able to chew properly :-(

I have them and they ******* suck. At first the ortho made them HUUGGEEE and so my teeth only touched in one spot. All the pressure on my back molars was really uncomfortable. And I was chewing on my cheeks like they were lunch. I went in for an 'adjustment' 3 days later, he sanded them down quite a lot. They are still a huge pain, but at least I'm able to chew. Unfortunately, I get the feeling I'm going to have them for a rather long time...

Hey,

I think this is what I had but mine was white.
They put it on one right tooth then swapped it for a left tooth in the last couple of months, which was weird after i'd had it on the right for ages. Was like learning to eat again!

I had it to stop my top teeth breaking/knocking off the bottom brace as I have a deep bite and crossbite.

You'll be fine...at first I kept biting my cheek and struggled to eat but i soon got used to it.

Mine was on about a year...I had it taken off in December.

I have them, and I hate them with a fiery passion! It's only been a couple weeks, and I'm still mostly swallowing food whole. I have an underbite (dental, not skeletal), and the bite blocks are to help move top teeth forward and bottom teeth back. I still eat mostly liquid/soft diet, but I am able to cut hamburger and solid food into small, small pieces and swallow them whole or mush on the roof of my mouth. The molars that they sit on don't hurt, but the top ones that rest on them are sore every morning I wake up. The sores on the sides of my tongue have finally gone away...all I can think is...this will be worth it, this will be worth it! Good luck to you on your journey!
