Pointy things on band, can they be sawed down?

#1 Post by HKFandora »

I got three molar bands yesterday, and expecting at least three more possibly( I have four more molars in the back undone.) I was reading that the pointy things on the tongue side of the bands is for easy application and removal. The one on the right tooth isn't as noticeable and can get a pass, but on my left and one especially feels as though the pointy thing is monstrous in size. My tongue is always noticing it, and I am mainly chewing on my left side because the right side tooth is still sensitive.

Two weeks ago I had a new restoration with a composite filling (cracked filling that they wanted to fix that wasn't bothering me.) It feels like food I didn't get when eating, leaving me to run my tongue over it when chewing. I'm sure I will get use to it some, and it's not sharp to where it cuts me and leaves me bleeding (yet!) So I was wondering if it can be shaved low, or would they have to remove it? I've heard people getting theirs filed down. I believe I can stand it long enough until my next appt in April but now I'm wondering are there bands not designed like this? Would putting wax help? I have large molars (reason one tooth is getting a bracket rather than bands) and I think the bigger the band the larger the pointy thing ( I don't know the correct name) is. I think they needed to use a large bracket on the one that I feel the most.

The evil pointy things are hooks for elastics. I had mine just sanded down at first but I ended up needing them cut completely off! I made an emergency appt to have them cut off. I couldn't stand it anymore. I couldn't eat they hurt my tongue so bad. It will usually only get worse. I wouldn't try to live with it Until April! They are the devil! LoL :)
