Resby - the composite on my front tooth was only obvious when someone looked at me from the side.

I have woken up this morning and I feel no pressure in my mouth at all! My front tooth that i poking out is not feeling any pressure even when I take it out? Really freaked out that its broken or something :(. One of my front to teeth is over lapping and has felt pressure for the last week even when I have taken out! Now I feel nothing!!! Very worried!

Mark180 - don't worry this happens. I had fortnightly appointments and don't know what the dentist did to the aligner each time, but it always felt tighter after I'd been and then after about a week felt slack again.

:-* Thought it was a good time to post an update .... I am now IA and ... Clear Aligner free! My composite blobs have been removed, teeth cleaned, had a little bit of filing to my two lateral incisors and wire fixed to the back of my top teeth. I am absolutely thrilled and can't believe its all done. My dentist also took moulds to make my whitening trays so I shall go back in two weeks time to start the whitening.

The wire feels absolutely fine and wasn't painful or uncomfortable to fix. I will need to floss once a day using the TePe brushes. It does feel strange not to have some sort of brace in but I recon that by this evening I will have forgotten what it was like wearing one!! My journey has taken nearly six months but has been so worth it :D

Hi Susiesue, it's great to hear you are pleased with your results. I too am now finished treatment and have just arrived back after having the wire retainer fitted (it does feel a little strange but I'm sure I'll get used to it). My treatment has taken 4.5 months (including bonding and bleaching), and I have to say I'm very pleased with my results. I never thought at 49yrs of age I would be sitting here with the straight teeth I've always longed for.................only wish I'd done it sooner!!

I'll attempt to post before and after pics below for anyone who's interested:

Well done guys on finishing the treatment!!!!! Awesome! I am over two weeks in now.. still no movement :( However the dentist has filed more and I now have gaps between the twisted and poking out tooth! I feel no pressure in the mouth and it doesn't hurt at all when I take out and put in the appliance.I was concerned about this and that one side does not grip my back teeth as well as the other asked my dentist and he said this is normal. Can not wait until my teeth move and when I am not wearing the gum shield :)! Enjoy your new smile guys¬

oh wow Turnbulls your teeth look fantastic thank you for posting. I think the 'whiteness' looks perfect, I hope mine come out so well. I'm loving being brace free, although I did wake up this morning panicking for a moment that I had forgotten to put my brace in last night. I have to admit that I do a cheesy smile everytime I pass a mirror at home

Thank you Mark180. Keep going it will be over before you know it, the first few weeks will turn into a month and then you are on a roll. I'm pretty sure I didn't really start to see any movement until the first month, you'd have to look back at my first posts on here. Everyones teeth are different and respond at different times, just wear the IA as much as you can, follow your dentists instructions and ask questions even if they seem silly. If you dentist filled again that will be good as he's making room for movement. Re not fitting on one side, I would presume that's because your teeth will be guided into their new position but it takes time. Mine was the same and it was only near the end did the whole curve of the IA bar fit my mouth. My dentist has given me my before and after moulds and its incredible seeing the change in teeth position, I now have a lovely curve to my top arch.

Good luck

Hello. I had my aligner fitted this afternoon. Can feel it already. Speech not great but off work for a few weeks so all ok. Masses of saliva though and I wonder if that will go?

Been told treatment will take 12 weeks and to wear min of 16 hours and max of 20 hours a day.

Roll on 12 weeks!

I didn't do too well with mine overnight. I had to take it out around 1 am. The saliva just got too much and I started to cough. Now I have had a cold so that definitely didn't help with the coughing. Will try again tonight.

I have read about people using wax for moulding to help with saliva. Can anyone tell me a bit more and where it would actually go on the aligner? Not going to use it just yet as would prefer to see how my mouth progresses naturally over the next few days.

I just booked my appointment for next Tuesday to see if I'm suited for the IA, and when asked how much the consultation would be they said they would do it for free, yay!

Also heard back from one place who quoted $1400AUD for the IA which seems pretty good, will have to check if that includes retainers etc.
Hi Crizzles i live in melbourne and really want the inman aligner alternative to braces. Can i ask what dentist you went to? How are you finding th IA? Would love some info.
Thanks!
Hey Polpol! Sorry for the delay been away for a while. Glad there is someone else local looking into the same thing. Yeah, so I got that quote from East Melbourne Dental which seemed really good, but as yet I didn't get around to going there for a consultation. I went to a place in St Kilda for a free Inman consultation and he said it was pretty simple etc, just to straighten my lower teeth but the cost was around $3500!! Hmm so I then found out my local orthodontist who I had been to previously for a consultation (fyi he recommended regular braces for 24mth or '6 month braces' for about 9 months) had advertised the inman aligner on their website (advanced ortho in caulfield) - so I called up to enquire and was told to come in again and have another consultation (As it had been about 4-5months since i first went there). So when I got there, he said whatever treatment I went with I would need both uppers and lowers, in order to straighten my bottom teeth I will need my uppers brought forward to accommodate. So he kinda steered me away from the inman and suggested 6 month braces was still the best option and around the same price (so they were quoting around $2500-3000, per arch for inman). After some more discussion he asked what were my hesitations/preferences for treatment - I said base don what he had told me 6mth braces sounded like the most effective option, but I would really prefer something removable and secondly cost was a factor. So he had a think about it and another look at my teeth and then said there was another option which was brand new and he had just returned from europe to complete the course for it. It is called bracketSAR (there isn't much info on it that I have seen locally) anyway it is a combination of braces with invisalign type retainer, removable but with similar results to 6 mth braces for slighly cheaper and same time frame - all sounded good (although I had been planning to spend $1400 for 1 inman now we are talking $6000, $4800 after insurance). Soo that is where I am currently at leaning towards this bracketSAR but still a bit hesitant over price and results. How are you going?

Thanks for the reply Crizzles!

Really interesting to hear your experiences. After all the research i did about the Inman Aligner i was literally going nuts about which to choose (Inman or Invisalign) and with a big cost difference and length of treatment it seemed so simple but so complicated... So i finally decided and only last week put down my deposit for Invisalign. I have signed up for a 13month course and total cost is $5800.
The major factors for my decision were:
- I got 3D computerized images of how my teeth were going to move and what the results will look like at the end
- the dentist i chose was Freedom Dental in Melbourne - they are very welcoming, caring and the place is a spa more so then a dentist
- overall with invisalign i am going to have every single tooth straightened/accounted for to have an overall better smile - not just the front teeth
- I can get a couple of free retainers at the end to keep my teeth in position

So the aligners are being made and should be here in about 2 weeks! Totally looking forward to speaking like a rocket scientist!

Would love to keep a track of your progress even if you go ahead with a different treatment - Just being fellow Melbournian and all...

Hey Polpol, glad you're still around! Oh wow congrats on making the decision, I know how hard it can be to commit! Hey 13mths sounds pretty good (what does your treatment involve? crowding, uppers/lowers?), I was told it would be 24mths for invisalign and $8400 or something like that, so I kinda ruled it out for those reasons. Yeah I bet seeing the 3D results would help to come to a decision and give you the motivation to know what you'll end up with (I could do with seeing the same!). That's a good point about all teeth being moved to correct alignment, it is something I am wanting to enquire about with this BracketSAR, from many of the images I've seen of it they only show brackets on the front 6 teeth, so I want to make sure I'm going to get all necessary teeth aligned/rotated and my bite fixed to the same extent as the other treatment options. Whilst the original reason for me seeing an ortho was to fix up the crowding of my lower front teeth, I also have issues with my bite (front teeth barely overlap bottoms and slight crossbite, hence why he says I need uppers to bring teeth forward to overlap more) so hoping this option would fix the majority of issues rather than just the cosmetic. That's good news, you'll have to let me know how you go when they arrive. I can imagine a rocket scientist having a bit of a lisp!! For sure, will let you know when I'm brave enough to make a decision! Catchya soon.

I'm going for my impressions tomorrow and i'm quite excited.
My canine teeth are quite pointy and was wondering if any of you asked the Dentist to shape them for you during your treatment?
