Hitting your teeth together! ouch!

#1 Post by rhibee83 »

Quick question

Most times when I am trying to talk I end up having like a teeth spasm or for some reason my teeth bang together (front teeth) and it really hurts.. feel like I am bashing my teeth and i don’t want to do any damage.

Does any one else have this problem? I find myself talking with a lisp when I say certain words, like not pronouncing words as well, as I don’t want to get my top and bottom teeth to close to each other cos they are sore.

It is really frustrating me and hurts when it happens :-+ . Is it normal or is it just me? lol

I am having the same problem- in part because as my top teeth are getting straighter and in correct position they are banging on my bottom front teeth that got pushed forward (front tooth was angled in and bottom teeth tilted forward to make room for it to nestle behind- hence diagnosis of crossbite) Can't wait for bottom brackets to go on to start moving those bottom teeth back to where they belong (of course they haven't been where they belong for about 45 years LOL).

Wish I had this problem! I have quite an openbite, and as treatment has progressed, it seems to have gotten worse. I can't wait for my front teeth to be close enough to touch each other.

I have this problem :( It does hurt very badly!! I've done it since about 1 month into treatment and now at 4 months in I still do it. It sucks!! It's very hard to hide it when you do it while talking to someone cause you immediately get the sour face and stop talking!

I am glad I am not alone! lol

Bikerchick - yes!! I do it while talking and then stop talking and grab my mouth and go Ouch! lol. I am sure people get frustrated cos I talk funny and not really fully pronounce my words lol and then I get interupted cos I clash my teeth together!

I hope it stops for me after a while then!!

Ugh, I just cringed when I read the title of this thread. This used to happen to me a LOT. When I first started braces, my bottom two front teeth were in front, then my top two front teeth, then my bottom lateral incisors. It was a big mess that required a bite plate for 3 months. Once that was no longer needed, I would very frequently talk and have the top and bottom front teeth slam into each other. Extremely unpleasant, I feel your pain.

I also had the problem throughout treatment as my bite was changing and the position of my jaw was slightly different. I'd eat or talk with old motor memory and do the same thing. :(

The number one cause of this in my house.

My three year old.

Especially his head smacking me in the face.

NO ONE BELIEVES ME WHEN I TELL THEM ABOUT THIS!

And it is one of the most painful and frustrating things but I'm met with disbelief when I speak of it. Thank god for this site, it's good to know I'm not alone.

I've also experienced this problem and was worried about how long it was gonna continue
because I wasn’t used to having a ‘normal’ bite with my front teeth but thankfully it has subsided.

But now I’m having a new concern: Ever since my last adjustment my top front tooth has been hitting the elastic ligature that is attached to the bracket of my bottom front tooth when I bite together – it doesn’t hurt with the impact but I’m unsure whether this is something I should contact my ortho about or it’s not a problem
