Final meal before braces

I stood in a conference room at work, ate a Snickers bar, staring down at the deadened streets of Detroit from thirty floors up, thinking this would be my last candy bar for 18 to 24 months.

When the ortho assistant gave me my "talk" after my braces were glued on, she included Snickers in her "do not eat" list, and I felt like I'd gotten away with something by sneaking that last one in just in time.

I find this thread funny. My teeth are straight, but my bite is so dysfunctional, that I already avoid hard to eat foods. Everything I cook is soft and easy to eat. I don't imagine I'll miss anything when I get braces in a few weeks, but I remember stuff getting stuck in the braces being the norm from last time :/.

I was thinking about maybe some steak or perhaps something stringy like pizza with lots of mozzarella but as I'm getting them on a Friday and on a Thursday usually fly in the door and grab a quick bite to eat before heading out 20 mins later suspect it will be something like pasta!

The thing that is killing me right now is it is getting to be long-awaited bbq time up north. Summer without burgers and brats should be illegal. I can't even eat ravioli yet so--OMG--corn on the cob! I'm sobbing now.

I had a BIG HALF slab of ribs with a side of mac and cheese, greens, and cornbread...

In hindsight, I still would have kept the ribs dinner for the very last meal. Being able to bite into another slab is my dream after I take these braces off.However, I would have added some granny smith apples, a nice juicy burger, hard shelled tacos, popcorn, and crunchy cereal to eat throughout the day/week...sadly enough, I'd also add a chic-fil-a sandwich. I tried to eat a chic-fil-a sandwich by tearing it into pieces and it's like the thing absolutely CRUMBLED in my hands. All of the fried covering just slid off the actual chicken part. I almost cried since I had been craving it all day and there was no way I could physically "bite" into it.........C'est La Vie!

This topic is making me so hungry even though I just had creamed spinach and salmon. A week or so before getting braces I remember going to LongHorn getting the biggest steak on the menu!! Ooooooooo how I miss my steak with A-1 sauce. Also I just miss my chips (Salt and vinegar kettle chips) biting in apples. I still eat burgers and ribs, but its not the same as biting into them!!! Boy I can't wait to get my braces off now because I imagine gaining about 5-10 pounds within a week of them coming off!!

Me, too, kt! I had no idea I was about to end up on Starvation Row, or I would have had a New York steak, a salad with cucumbers, radishes and croutons, a bowl of cereal, a bag of salt and vinegar chips, a Jimmy John's #5, pizza, a bagel and a hard, crunchy apple.

Now that's what I call a Pre-brace feast!

I miss eating lettuce and spinach! I would eat them everyday in my lunch and I cannot for the life of me chew it at the moment.

I also miss biting into a big fat burger, or even just a chicken snitzel sandwich.

Pretty much I miss being able to actually bite into ANYTHING.... I am so over cutting everything up. I ate pizza with a knife and fork the other night. IT IS NOT THE SAME lol

There's a local ice cream shop that my husband and I went to pre-braces all the time. They have THE BEST housemade Carmel topping. We would get that on top of pralines and cream. Nomnomnom. That's the first place I'm going to when my braces are off!

i miss eating any food with big bites. everything have to be cut to smaller pieces just makes the food taste different. i had spacers before my braces and i wished i went for a feast before i got my spacers. =(

I do remember going to Chipotle. It's not so great, but I would give anything for some chips and guac about now.

Eat the Guac straight up! I started eating whole food vegan about a year ago.. And Guacamole on cucumbers, sprouted bread or even on a SPOON is a favorite! (basically no animal products, no processed foods... I have no idea how the heck I'll eat AFTER braces )
