I thought I would post some new photos. Don't know if anyone will be able to discern any noticeable difference. I really can't see it myself even though I DO feel changes occurring. Do let me know what you think. Thanks!

Re: Closing a large diastema
It looks a little smaller but the pictures are kind of small so it is hard to tell. Did they put a power chain on the incisors?
Re: Closing a large diastema
Went in on Wednesday for my fourth adjustment. Same old, same old -- two new powerchains (upper and lower) and a new wire. Still no brackets on any of the molars. I'm getting a bit concerned about that because he says he is "retracting" my lower teeth in order to have enough space to bring the upper teeth back so he can close the space. But now I'm worried that my back teeth won't line up properly. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I sent him an email yesterday asking about that. He wrote back saying he is monitoring the occlusion closely and that if he feels I need brackets on the molars, he will recommend it. He said that I would be much more comfortable without them. I have no doubt about that, but it makes me nervous. Comments, anyone?

Re: Closing a large diastema
Went in today for my 5th adjustment. Dr. Smith did some IPR on my bottom teeth in order to make some more room so the top teeth can be moved back. They changed out my powerchain and put the previous wire back in. Lots of pressure but he says that I'm "looking good!" Happy.

Can't believe it's been 8 months already for you .
Seems your ortho is taking note of your concerns and not just brushing you off so i'm sure he's doing the best for you.

Re: Closing a large diastema
I fell down on Sunday and broke my ankle in two places. Am not allowed to bear any weight on it for 8-10 weeks. Because I live alone and there is no one at home to help me I am in a rehab facility until then. So no appointments with my orthodontist until I can walk again. Guess that means that my treatment time will be extended. But in the meantime, whatever he did when I saw him last has resulted in some substantial closure so I am happy about that.

Re: Closing a large diastema
Take care Dee! And get better soon <3 I hope you'll be mostly healed by your next appointment and it won't make your treatment time very much longer
Re: Closing a large diastema
Oh Dee, I am so sorry to hear about your ankle! I wish you a very speedy recovery. Hopefully the forced downtime will be a blessing in disguise. I know you worked from home; can you still do that in the rehab place? You will be in my thoughts!!
Re: Closing a large diastema
Well, here I am fast approaching my one year anniversary in braces. Truth be told, it has not all been fun and games. But I AM making progress. My orthodontist is very pleased with how things are going and so am I. My space is almost entirely closed and I will probably be getting elastics when I go back to see him in mid-October. He is going to be removing the brackets on my two top incisors and replacing them with something else. I honestly don't remember what he said. Anyway, I've uploaded a picture for anyone who wants to see what things look like now. I hope everyone else is faring well with their journey.

Re: Closing a large diastema
Wow! You've actually had a lot of movement. In addition to your gap closing up a lot, it looks like your bite is in better positioning.
While I had a lot of issues during my first year in braces, I tend to 'forget' about them now as I see the progress that has been accomplished.
I say it is worth it to keep plugging along.

Re: Closing a large diastema
Hi TMJJill,
Yes, I've been very happy with the progress. Just the large amount of closure I've seen has been very gratifying. I will, however, be very happy when I can get these bad boys out of my mouth.
As for my bite being in a better position, I'm not really sure what you mean. But my orthodontist seems happy with the state of affairs in my mouth so I am happy.
